We've all had a to rent a truck from U-Haul, Ryder or Hertz at one point or another - and no matter who the company is, there is always a problem I have found. Share your nightmare stories here so you too can be in good company! My story: I rented a medium size truck, some pads and a hand cart one day so I could move. I showed up the day of, they only had a small truck, no pads and no hand cart ready to go. I had the confirmation number and everything, but none of the stuf was there! I was angry, and while I was complaining, someone came back with a hand cart, so at least I had that. All the same, I told them that they were going to charge me only half for the whole rental since this was so pathetic, and thankfully they did. Still, how hard is it to have a truck ready when you reserve it two weeks in advance?..

I have heard of people renting Uhaul trucks and then they break down. Well, you have to unload everything to the new one, they will not lift a finger to help. I know someone said that they didn't even want to give them a discount when it happened.

I dod not know that truck rentals are such a major problem (in USA only?). I think you must maybe be careful to name specifics like U-Haul, Ryder or Hertz! MyLot might get in trouble for this!

why would mylot get in trouble for people talking about things that actually happened to them?... While ruck rentals may be a big problem in the USA, freedom of speech is a something that we have that is really great! :)

I rented a Uhaul about 11 years ago. I was moving to a different state. I was 8 momths pregnant and had my 3 yearold daughter in the truck with me and smoke started coming out of the engine and I pulled over in a gas station. The engine was on fire. We got out of the truck. Called Uhaul and had to wait for hours for them to bring a new truck. I have rented 2 since that time and had no bad experience with them.

I once moved house driving my own rental truck. I was uncomfortable the whole time because I has only ever driven ordinary cars at this time. It was a huge step up for me. Anyway, it all worked out OK.

I rented from a company not too long ago. Well, I locked the keys in the truck with my infant son inside of the truck. It was a hot day outside and when I called the company to see if they would bring me an extra set of keys they told me that they didn't have any. They told me to call a lock smith. A lock smith would take too long, so I had to call the fire department to help me out. Thank goodness my son was ok. I know that it wasn't the rental company's fault that I had locked the keys in the truck, but they could have helped me more. I don't think I will be going back there if it is possible.

wow - that is really scary! But all the same, customer service has never been the strong point of these companies - and it really should be! I am so glad your son is OK!

I agree!!! I've had a bad experience with rental places too. My story: I also had reservations, and a conformation number...but guess what, they couldn't find me in the computer. Also the trailer that I was trying to rent was not even there yet. It took me 2 hours with 3 screaming, crying, hungry kids with me to actually get the stupid trailer.......Then, I take the trailer home, the lights on it aren't working, I was a single mother at the time and I had no way to know what was the matter. Anyways, I loaded the trailer completely full with everything that my children and I owned, and left out the next morning to go get help with the lights.... I arrive at my cousins house, we get the lights working...Then I needed to put a jack that he was letting me borrow in the trailer and when I opened the door, I almost had a heart attack...It rained the night before and everything was WET...the trailer leaked so bad!!! I was PI$$ED!!!! I had to drive back home, unload everything back into the house cause of the rain and take the trailer back...Thank God, none of my pictures got ruined.. I did not recieve any money back either! I will not rent a truck or trailer from that company again! Good Post! Have a great day!

Well my mom is a avid mover she moves every few months in a years time she has moved 6 times. And I am the only one of the siblings that help her move this year. She is moving again in January. A few years ago she rented a huge truck to move and we had only a few people help but I packed and left the loading to the men and let me tell you they just throwed stuff in there and did it all wrong. And we couldn't put all her stuff in there so we had to unpack it all and redo it again. If was time comsuming and we were already tired but we got it all in. But it did cause alot of bickering and fighting. And another time they moved and they just throwed stuff in the truck and when they got to where they were going and opened the door a bunch of stuff came tumbling out boxes bags and mattresses and everything else lucky for them that alot of it wasn't broke because they staked everything all wrong and then went up steep hills and curves and it just messed everything up. From then on I have been chosen to pack everything and move it. And unpack it basically all myself.

Rental Trucks - Trying to use Uhaul was a nightmare for me.
When I moved out of my parents house 8 years ago, I used Uhaul to try and move my things to my new home. I made a reservation two weeks in advance and they said there would be one available then so I paid for it. When I got there, they had no trucks available and they said that one should be coming in shortly so I waited. I ended up waiting 3 hours and still no truck came. I was so upset and complained and got my refund and left. Some of my friends who had pickup trucks helped me move my things to my townhouse. I will not use Uhaul again.

I have rented them several times in the past few years, but luckily haven't had any problems. I have gotten good though at calling them all and going well So and So can do it for this price. I got over $600 knocked off the last one I rented doing that.
