As a proud citizen of the United States, I feel that I have to respond to your post and correct your big misconception about George W. Bush. He is the elected PRESIDENT of the United States, which is a DEMOCRATIC Nation; George Bush is NOT a DICTATOR. He was elected by the people in 2000, and re-elected by the people in 2004. Are you aware that the United States Government is a DEMOCRACY, NOT A DICTATORSHIP??? They are two very different things.
I may or may not agree with some of the political decisions made by President Bush, but we have a system in place in our government (Congress and Legislature) that ensures that the President cannot run the country as a Dictator. He actually needs approval to pass just about everything that he does.
George Bush is not a popular president right now; not in our country or in many other countries in the world. But look at some of the issues that have led up to his decisions. Go back to 9/11 (2001), which was just 8 months after his inauguration for his first term. Would you have wanted to try to decide how to respond to that heinous crime????Part of being an American is knowing that in 4 years there will be another election, and that someone else can be elected as President. We always have the safety net of the Congress to fall back on. It seems to me that our government, even with it's flaws, is not doing all that bad.

hii laurie...
when i said dictator i said it in figurative sense..
i'm sorry if that hurt ur feelings...
But i still maintain that mr. bush is a dictator.. not of america but of the world..
he's the one who decided to go on with the attack on iraq even though the UN asked it not to do so..
wat is this?? isn't this dictatorshisism??
Now after an year and a half, we all know wat is the truth...
there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq...
it was all politics of "Oil"
Iraq is one of the world's leading producer of oil.. USA wanted to control this oil..as it will be the most prized possesion a country will have in a few decades from now...
For your information I know a lot about american politics..
I know USA is a democracy.. Mr. Bush has been elected by the americans..

I am in total agreement with you about Iraq; I also do not support the war in Iraq, and I never did. Look at how many young military men and women from many countries have lost their lives needlessly over there.
As far as the initial attack on Afghanistan after 9/11, I think that President Bush was totally justified in that. It was short & sweet, but we should have come home and stayed home after it was over.
I still have to argue that Bush cannot be called a "dictator". He has no power over other countries in the world, as they all have their own governments, whatever they may be. He is the democratic leader of the United States who happens to be encouraging military and political action in Iraq that the entire world seems to be in disagreement with.

It's good to read such a reasonable reply.
I think you're right in that we cannot say for sure if he is right or wrong, because there are always going to be parts of the story that we cannot be told, for security reasons. This is not because the government is hiding things from us or keeping secrets from us, but because they feel that it is necessary to keep some things silent in order to ensure our safety. That's one of the great things about being American; we can feel confident that our government is all about us. We may not agree with all that they do, and we may not agree with the way they do things, but we know that they are there to serve and protect us, the citizens.
Thank you for your post.
