Is earthquakes due to plundering of natural wealth from underground

We have using the natural resources like natural gas, oil, coal etc. of earth lying beneath to the maximum use. As result there is void space below the earth surface. When the earth adjusts the surface below due to gravity there is earth quake. Is this reasoning correct or could be one or false. Otherwise, what is the exact reason?
