A Friend has started drinking a little brandy or whiskey in her tea. I commented on how much was gone from the bottle of whiskey one day and next day saw that the amount had increased in the bottle. Tea had been poured into the bottle to look like none had gone. This friend is under a lot of stress and is not sleeping very well. When I mention anything, she flies off the handle and tells me I have a problem because I don't drink much. Could this be the start of alcohol problems

Yes, it could. Denial is the first sign. I would try to talk to her, just let her know you are concerned, see if maybe you can get her to talk to someone, anyone about what is making her so stressed out. Sometimes, just talking about it, getting it off your chest can help.

It very well could be the start of something!! I would keep a close eye on her and try to maybe write her notes and not be there while she reads them, that way she will cool off before she confronts you. If she's just a hot tempered person, well then I would scream and yell until I got my point across. I also try to secretly keep track of how much she truly is drinking. Just to verify your worries so when you go to her you can say well, I've been watching you and this is what I've seen. She can't disagree with your opinion if you have proof.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Yes I would say so. I would keep a close eye on her and just tell her that you are there for her anytime she needs to talk
