Has anyone seen the INS raids on 6 US employers on the news?

I just saw it and was particularly interested, because the town in Iowa where they showed them loading up illegals in buses is the town we moved away from just because of the problems with the town being overwhelmed with those people. Our nice little town where we raised our children disappeared and turned into a place where you weren't safe walking down a street, where young girls were getting prenant and abandoned, and where the public services were so overwhelmed that they could hardly function. I was really glad to see that the government is finally doing something about it. What do you think?

I am sorry but you seem to be a bit harsh towards "those" people as you call them. Not all of "those" people are bad. My husband is Hispanic and so are my children so yes I am going to get offensive when you refer to them as "those" people. I know illegal immigration is a very bad problem today but do you know how hard it is for the Hispanics/Mexican people to become legalized? My husband had to wait 2 years to get his "green card" as they are called. Yet my new step-father who is Eygptian, only had to wait 6 months to get his. I don't like that a lot of Mexican/Hispanic turn to crime. It makes all Hispanics look bad! Somehow there has got to be a better, faster way to help them obtain their legalization. Also, I have lived in Mexico 1 1/2 years (1 year the first time, 6 months the next) and I have seen the living conditions. The lack of basic neccessities is enormous. A bag of diapers is a days pay, I'm completely serious! I am NOT condoning illegal entering into the U.S. by any means but I just want people to better understand why the Mexicans are coming here. They are a poor country in most places and are having a hard time surviving. Yes, a lot send the money back to Mexico. They want to help their families. Wouldn't YOU do anything to help YOUR family? I know I would!

I think the term "those people" was referring to illegal immigrants. There are plenty of honest, hard-working hispanics making a better life for themselves and their families here in America. The illegals should be found and dealt with. Whether it's by naturalization r deportation. Force

I believe too illegals should be dealt with. INS needs to make it a bit easier to get legalized. My new step-father only had to wait 6 months, he's an Egyptian and my husband had to wait 2 years. Something has got to change!

Your step father only had to wait six months because there are not as many trying to immigrate to US from where he came from. You have more hispanics trying to immigrate. That is why the wait is longer. Their government needs to start doing more for their citizens. Instead they encourage them to go to the US. When she referred to those people she was referring to illegals. She said she is married to a legal immigrant from Mexico.

My husband actually works at one of the plants that was raided today. Called to tell me he didn't know what time he would be getting home because the place was full of feds and they were shut down until they were done checking for illegals. We live in southwest minnesota and the plant where my husband works had never had any illegals there but The feds hadn't checked for a long time. I'm glad to because they take away the jobs that citzens could have.

I saw it on the news. They rounded up the illegals because they have been getting their social security numbers from people who are stealing identities throughout the US. The employers are saying it isn't their job to check the id's thoroughly. DAMN, then who's job is it? Illegals are the number one recipients of stolen identities now. The USA is going to turn into Mexico if we let it.............if WE let them.

I guess this is a silly question, but since these guys are using fake SSN's, shouldn't someone catch the ID's as fake (or under another name at least) when the employers registers them for taxes?

Sedel, I catch them all the time...but I am not allowed to report them, it violates their right to confidentiality.

They have to do something about this. You could see the difference in the neighborhoods once they start moving in,then complain when the neighborhood is crime ridden when they were the ones who did it! How many of our schools are over crowded now,all the free government programs, free housing, being able to open businesses and not pay taxes for the first 5 years! Then demand and get all these things without voting or speaking english! Time for everyone to join Grassfire and put a stop to all this!

First, she should have thought about that before getting pregnant by an illegal. Second there are a lot of women who support kids on there own. Get a job. I raised four kids after my divorce. She isn't the first one ever to have to raise a child by herself.

It's about time the government is doing something. Although I suspect it's only a token action to make things appear they are working. Force

Hopefully this will help clean up certain areas. I hope that it is not just a token act. I also wish they would do this where I live.

Yes, and if employers are smart enough they will not hire illegals for fear they will go to jail.

I didn't hear about it, but I think that it's great. Yes, it may take a while to get a green card or citizenship (I'm unaware of the requirements) but I do have 2 friends that are/were here on either a work or student visa. At the end of the term, they went back home. One has returned on a new visa and the other is reapplying. They are both good people who assimilate into the community and speak english fluently. And, they get here the right way. People seem to refuse to understand what the cost is for services that are provided to illegals, just in the medical field alone! I met someone in a billing capacity for a county facility and she said that it was around $30k per month. And that's just for ONE facility! I also know people who now have IRS problems or social security benefit problems due to stolen socials. It is WAY out of control and we can only pray that our government can do something about it. By the way, I refused to learn spanish in high school, and still have no plans to learn.

Sixteen restaurant employees at the Mall of America were arrested during aTuesday morning raid by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). All 16 were immigrants who lacked proper documentation, an INS official said Wednesday. Thirteen of the undocumented residents were cooks, dishwashers or food preparers at the California Cafe, an upscale restaurant in the mall. The other three were cooks at Johnny Rockets, a '50s-style diner. INS agents began working with businesses and officials at the mall earlier this year after a January shooting incident between two illegal workers  there. On a hunch, INS agents raided the restaurant Tuesday morning. Thirteen more California Cafe employees were unable to prove their identification and later were identified as illegal immigrants. During the raid, one employee had a Mexican voter's card that belonged to a cousin who worked at Johnny Rockets. That led to the three other arrests. Fourteen of the workers were Mexican nationals, Aljets said. The other two were Ecuadoran. All but three of them have been deported, several for the third and fourth time. The others face hearings before an INS judge. Zarth said some people had worked at the eatery for four years. He has since hired temporary workers to replace them.

Well, you had to get me started, didn't you?Fisrt, let me say my husband is Mexican, but LEGAL!After working two full time jobs a day, he came home to study English every night until he speak it well. But he is the exception.I wish the government would do the same here. While my husband is legal, he works with many that aren't,and their employers know it,yet do nothing about it!Most people think they work jobs that pay only little money, but what I've seen thats not true. Then they live 7 to12 people per house, making it unfit to live in again, drive new trucks, walk around with thousands in their pockets, and send most it back to Mexico.Where does that help our economy!?Their kids go to our schools, why? They don't learn English! Then they welfare, food stamps, and health care!I couldn't get state funded health when I a life threatening condition because I made 7.50 per hr.but I couldn't health insurance either. If I had been an illegal Mexican I could have gotten it!So,yeah,I have a big problem with it, my husband does, too.
