I just looked for a discussion like this but I couldnt find any! so here it is, discuss it anyways you like!
You could either divide MetallicA's life depending on their albums ( Like Pre Black album and post Black album) or regarding their members (With Rob, with Jason or with Cliff) .
In my opinion MetallicA was much more influential as well as creative before the Black album! It was their debut album and it was worth every second! but after Bob Rock started working with them i guess they kinda let it go into his hands! I'm not sayin that Bob Rock caused all the descent but Jaymez and Lars put too much trust in him.
Anyways now with Bob Rock gone I'm just waiting to see how their next album sounds as I didn like St Anger much!Go ahead, Post your opinions

Thanks for you reply. Yea sounds like a good idea, of course Kirk has worked with other artists and has some singles as well, but you know kirk ! he's so attached to MetallicA and I think thats a very good characteristic of him!

I agree with your opinion, Metallica had most of his force gathered before the Black Album came out. Bob Rock is an alright producer but he likes to have things too much on his way and that might get on the nerve of some bands, but Metallica don't seem to mind much, so you get what you've been getting from them lately...
