Have you ever had a pet monkey?

I had a pet monkey, back in the 70s. She was the coolest pet. We dressed her in doll clothes. She slept in a crib. She was right-handed and ate with a baby spoon. She ate at the table with us. She had her own toothbrush attachment to the family's electric toothbrush, and she knew which one was hers. She took showers, and used the toilet. When we took her out in public, we put a diaper on her. Of course, we cut a hole in it, so her tail could go through. She was part of our family. She got sick, though. She developed pneumonia, and died. We were crushed.

Ours was just like having a baby in the house, so taking care of her was like taking care of a baby. She loved Gerber baby food, and chicken noodle soup, and bananas! She would jump on the counter, grab a banana out of the fruit bowl, and then tuck it under her arm and take off running down the hall with it. She looked like a little football player when she did that! LOL. I think when we had her, there weren't any permit requirements. I do believe they have changed now, though.

Never had one, but always liked them. I don't think I'd have one as a pet. They seem like a ton of work.

That would have been so awesome to have a pet monkey. They are so cute and adorable. I would like one of those tiny ones I think it is called a spider monkey (not sure). I have heard they are training the small monkey to help out with people who have disabilities and need help to get things I think that is a good thing to do because a dog is good but a dog can't climb and get stuff out of cabinets and get you a glass of water and things like that. They are training them to do alot.

I'm so sorry about that. My husband does want to get a monkey. He wants one of those like the monkey on Zaboomafoo. I don't think we can have one but it does seem kind of cool.

I have also always wanted a pet monkey... I have had visions of teaching my little monkey to make me cofee - and maybe even breakfast in bed if I got a really smart one :)

I never had a pet monkey but my mom did (Spider monkey I believe) back in the 50's or 60's I believe. She ordered it from a catalog. The monkey hated the broom and the mop and would scale her curtains. She loved that monkey. His name was Pratt

We didn't have a Spider monkey, but they were pretty cool, too. Ours hated the vacuum cleaner. She would scream at the top of her lungs when the vacuum was running. ha!

Ours seemed exceptionally smart. She was a Wooly Monkey. We had a Squirrel Monkey, too, but he was just plain mean!

We were going to get a chimp way back in the early 70's. Our friends had one, but when he started biting my mom changed her mind. Now I am considering taking in one for foster care. Helping Hands has helper monkeys for the disabled. They are only 30 miles from where I live. We are still deciding if we want to make the commitment. It can be quite costly, but they pay the vet bills. We would need to pay for everything else. That's too bad about your baby getting sick. How old was she?
