What will you use it for? Games? Office? At a budget of 1000$ I can suggest a AMD Athlon 64x2. A motherboard of your choice compatible with the CPU. I recommend Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, AsRock. Have it with an nVidia Chipset. A GPU nVidia would be nice. A 6600GT is enough. You should get it on 128-bit bus because if you get 64 bit bus you will not be able to run Vista properly or any other game that comes out later on. A 200 GB HDD, serial-ATA. 1 GB DDR2 not less, have it in dual channel. A optical device...DVD-RW +/-. A case of your choice but a power source enough to power all components. This configuration should come up to 1000$ or a bit more or less. Hope it helped.
