World War II Memorial

United States
December 13, 2006 3:27pm CST
I wanted to share some photos I have from one of our visits to the Capitol city of USA. These were taken shortly after the opening of the World War II Memorial. Hmmm, it seems I can only upload one photo to my discussion? That puts a bit of a kibash on my plans. I will post this and find a work around. I may need to wait for a response so can upload additioonal photos. I was hoping for a whole pictoral type of article here but I am also putting photos in my "interest" page if anyone wants to see them,. Force

I agree. While I'm no pacifist, the older I get the more I see war rarely has the desired effect. Thanks for your input. Force

Thanks for the effort and hope you do find a 'work around'. The Viet Nam vets memorial came about within less than a decade after the 'conflict's' end. It took over 40 years to recognize the service of the men and women who volunteered for WWII. Sometimes we are too slow.

I always found the lack of a true memorial to World War II until 2004 to be one of the biggest oversights in American history. Maybe it was partly because the Greatest Generation's members really wanted to simply focus on rebuilding their post-war lives and did not want to overdo the whole self-promotion or self-congratulatory thing, and the public kind of adopted the Marines Memorial as an unofficial WWII Memorial, so in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s, no one really gave it much thought. At least the Memorial exists now...and that's what counts.

This is not necessary. Go to interests sections nd specifically on the "places I have visited" section. Add the world war ii memorial and you can post up to 10 photos.

Here in West-Flanders, Belgium, we have a lot of memorials, a lot of WW1 and some of WW2, and they make me think about peace everyday ... Brits, Americans, Canadians,, and everyone who came to free us : Glory to you and thanks a lot !

I hear it is a great memorial. Did you go to the memorial where there is always someone looking at you when you walk through? It is amazing to think it works that way.

WWII memorial - December 2004
I visited in 2004. It's a shame that so many like my Grandfather never lived to see it.

I think you can upload many fotos directly without doing in a discussion and add a name from which we can find it. That will be better and then we can all see the photos
