Is there a polite way to deal with pesty neigbors?

My neigbors are always knocking on my door from the time I get home until I leave again. They need this they want to borrow that I am irratated with it but I am a nice guy and don't want to offend anyone. My wife can't take anymore and is about to blow up. How do I stop this?

I had a similar problem with a niegbor and just explained that I was busy most of the time and couldn't spend time with him. After about three times, he quit coming over.
