Do you smile at others?

My husbands tells me I'm to friendly. I greet people as I pass them in the store or on the street. I smile at those who make eye contact with me. I chat with people who wait in lines with me. Does this make me to friendly? If so I don't care, I refuse to turn into that person who is grumpy all day long, or always yelling at the kids in th neighborhood for stepping on his lawn. One smile can make someone elses day a whole lot brighter, so why not smile?

I'm not very outgoing so I don't chat to strangers, but i think it's just polite to smile at people in passing like you say.
The trouble is that most people just look at me strange, like they're trying to work out how i know them or I'm just a grinning idiot! It's a shame really because it makes the world a nicer place and costs nothing.
You should see the looks I get if I hold open a door for a stranger in a shopping mall!

You are right about the strange looks others will give you for smiling. LOL, Don't stop trying to make the world a better place. I know it is easier to look at the ground than someone in their face, but what a terrible place this would be if we all just walked around with no expressions. Keep up the smiling and door holding, I'm on your side.

When I am in a medium sized town I am a lot more friendly and I smile and talk to strangers. When I'm in a big city, I don't.
Small towns promote and encourage friendliness. You know you are going to see those same people in a week or two.
In big cities, I get a negative response when I smile at people. They act like I'm going to steal their purse or bum money off of them or something. It's sad.
