Do you let your baby cry in the crib at night for a few minutes if they are over tired and nothing will work to get them to sleep? Or do you believe that a baby should never cry themselves to sleep?
what are some techniques you find helps sooth them into sleep?

I'm not a mother, but it's alright for a baby to cry for a few minutes without attention. Children who have too much physical contact with parents in developmental stages - after six months - can become uhealthily dependent. A couple of minutes without Mom or Dad rushing in to see what's the matter won't hurt and will help to foster healthy independance.
But no more than just a few minutes. Longer than that, and you start going to the other end of the spectrum.

i hate to listen to my daughter cry when i put her to bed but i know if i let her control the situation then it will not stop. understaning a baby is a baby but they learn young, when i put my daughter down i play soft music kiss her good night say i love you and shut the door with little light and she goes off to sleep with in a half hour. she will be 2 in february and i have noproblem with her bedtime anymore so long as we keep it consistant. i dont think crying for a few mins is something to worry about but i probably would go in to confort her after 20mins of crying. is this something that goes on every night?

my babies always slept beside me. they're in their cibs at daytime only. and no, i don't let them cry themselves to sleep. though some would say, once in a while you have to do this, i'd still say that's heartless! a baby needs to feel secure at all time. as for techniques, lots of cuddling would do. and maybe, a little soothing music, preferably instrumental ones or maybe just the crib mobile will do.
