Australia's Uranium Policy

Here is one take on the current scenario. In concert with Canada, we (err, our Commonwealth Government), has to deal with the following connundrum. On the one hand, we have advocated strongly through international and regional fora, ad nauseum for a nuclear free Pacific Area. However, as noted by especially, the US Department of Energy; Australia has probably half of the world's U308 reserves. Furthermore, we seem incapable of developing any local indigenous nuclear enrichment or weapons development programs. WHY? I have a number of theories regarding this anomaly, however, in accord with contemporary notions of democracy and free-speech; I will simply posit this subject into cyberspace and see what (if any), response it attracts. In closing, I simply suggest that to be the largest island continent on the planet, and located at the end of the very highly populated and politically fluid S.E. Asian archiaepeligo, and having a limited capacity for self defence in any conventional military scenario. Defence planners and strategists may be viewed by history; as myopic in vision, negligent in action and under many regimes would be viewed as unpatriotic or indeed simply put, traitors.
