Handicapped spots- Why do people abuse them?

That is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've seen people who park in the handicapped spots and do not have a placard or a plate of any kind. Their attitude is, "Well, I'll just be in the store for a minute." That's not right because they are taking the spot away from somebody who truly needs it. A few years ago my ex and I went to the Daytona 500. Well, he legitamately has a handicapped plate. We sat there and watched quite a few people park in the handicapped spots, get out of their vehicles and RAN to where they wanted to go. I wanted to throw up. It makes me sick to see people like that take advantage of the disabled. What do you think? Thanks.

Those people do it because they are lazy and do not want to walk or wait for a parking spot.

I know that if you do this in Washington State you get a big fine. One time, I was taking my dad to the store and forgot his placard. Well, he had his artifical leg in the back seat, so we thought everyone would know he was disabled. I had to back to the car for something and someone said something to me. They were understanding and left me alone. I totally agree with you. No one should park in these slots unless they really need to. I do have to say that it would have been nice to have one of these cards when I was in my 3rd trimester of pregnantcy.

Here in Las Vegas they could give a flying you know what about who parks where. I could've used one of those cards too in my 3rd trimester!!

My girlfriend is disabled so now i use the parking spot for her.If she is not with me,I do not use the card.I can now see how the closeness of a parking space for some one could make a big difference in someone's whole day and for people to abuse it frustrates me.

Yea, when I was alone in the car, I did not park in the handicapped parking spot either. I parked wherever there were spaces, and am thankful that I can walk.
