Like the poster above I also rarely listen to the news anymore - just too depressing... I can hardly keep track anymore of all the civil wars, religious wars etc. etc. But this has been happening since time immemorial - think of all the savage 'colinisations', the crusades etc. etc. I think the only difference now is that the populations are greater and news coverage is easier.

Your comment about news coverage is very true too.I wonder sometimes if the media is increasing the attention to these crimes and the perpertrators keep trying to "out do" each other for their 15 seconds of shame(you shot 3 people??I guess I have to shoot four to get more coverage).

could be.... sobering thought that! Well certainly these days terrorist attacks seem to be getting more and more atrocious... maybe the terrorists feel they need to do worse than the last guy to get anyones attention?

I rarely listen to the news anymore. It seems that history repeat itself and as soon as a war stops in a country, another civil war crops in another. It seems that man does not learn from his own mistakes

Makes me wonder if we will ever learn.Maybe a universal disaster needs to take place to pull all the countries onto one page.Where are those Martians when we need them?

I'm stumped. I think the key to world piece would have to be outlaw religion. It seems ones beliefs are enough to start wars nowdays. but hey i guess we'd then start wars over somthing else.

If i understand what you have said, there will always be disagreements happening in the world? I wish you were wrong but I agree with you . Just as a note, there are more wars being fought and killings happening in the name of religion and it has always been that way.

One must remember that this is not a war against a country. It was at the beginning and it only took a few weeks to remove the Saddam Hussein regime. Since then, we had a war against terrorists. The terrorists in Iraq are like the taliban in Afganistan. Their whole reason for fighting us is that they don't want the West to convert the Middle East people to Western values. That is... they don't believe in freedom. They want to keep a regime like the one of Saddam... where a few men are in power and everyone else lives in fear of them. But mostly... they want every muslim woman to remain the slaves of man. It is a barbaric culture which has never evolved and still lives in the dark ages. That culture is taken from their religion and they use it as a way of patriotism to gain support and enlist the help of other men who think like them. Make no bone about it. The catholic religion was not any better 1000 years ago. Catholics massacred thousand upon thousand of protestants and jews for refusing to convert to the catholic church. In those days... we were what Islam is today. The difference is that we moved with the times and became civilised. Like I said before... Islam is still living in the dark ages. It is all very well for Muslims living in the Western world to proclaim that Islam is not like that. But ask them why they did run away from the Middle East to come and live with us.

Some of the comments recently on CNN by "experts" have mentioned how when the other countries leave Iraq, then the strongest leader in the country will emerge to take power again and they will have another Saddam on their hands. History repeats itself? Not learning from past mistakes?

That is why America cannot leave. They need to clean up the place and have a man in power that will work with America.
