I think it's the general life style that we are forced to life in this day and age. Everything is so rushed and nearly every one has to really stuggle to make ends meet.
In the old days one spouse was able to stay home and run the home while the other made the living. Now both spouses have to do both jobs and there is very little time left for relaxation.
We just really get overloaded anyway and then when some other bad thing happens it just sends us spiraling downwards.

i think the breakdown of society has alot to do with it and also all the artificial foods we eat cannot help our hormones much.
i also suffer from depression but find that if a can catch myself that CBT does help somewhat.
i suppose everyone has differerent reasons that get them down.

We live in a very stressful world with so many trials. Life was not as dangerous or fast when we were younger. Anti depresents help a lot.

i am sorry i just dont think alot of these people are depressed. And it is the fault of their family doctor the doctor is telling them oh your are depressed here take this it will help. Easy for the doctor but it still leaves you feeling depressed. It is the easyest thing to blame everyting on depressant. alot of us dont really know what it is like to be depressed.

I don't know but you're right it does seem that way. I wonder if it is just diagnosed more. It seems to be genetic in a lot of cases and because of a chemical imbalance. I wonder if it has anything to do with dietary changes over the years.

Pls don't be depressed. Usually people suffer from depression because of frustration and loneliness.
If we want something and we can't have it, we are depressed, naturally. But don't let that depression take you down. That can affect our health and if continuously, that's to our detriment. Whatever failure we have, leave it to God. Read the Holy Bible and study it very well. God may open your heart to understand His Word and your load will become light.
It's also really difficult to overcome loneliness especially the elderly like me. But we have to face it and give our load to God. Be with Him and everything will be okay.
Others may say it's easy to say. We have to accept facts. We cannot be on bed of roses always. Life is checkered and when we're in the dark, be patient for behind the clouds the sun shines.
May God bless all of us. SEN

I consider depression a product of evolution and our lifestyles. We are very social beings (due to evolution) and so being lonley is an incredibly commen cause of depression. It is also a sort of 'by product' of out complex brains, which feel like they should be used alot, and so bordom and lack of purpose causes it to release depressing chemicals.
