I never went to the doctor for many years untill a few years ago when I had to go to the hospital with severe chest pains
I then found out that my heart had been damaged due to some factors that I didn't know I had.
Since then I have had a triple heart bye pass and am now Diabetic and have to take tablets for the rest of my life!Oh I wish I could turn the clock back with the knowledge that I posses now.
Please tell that you appreciate life more than I did and see the doctor for a check up even when you are feeling well!!!

Sorry... I can't tell you that, Deeky, because it just isn't true.
I lost my faith in my doctor some five or six years ago and haven't been to him since. I take herbal medicines and preventions. At the moment, everything seems fine, except for one quick rush to the hospital a couple of months ago, which they thought was a gallstone, but which I haven't suffered with since. That was another point where I ignored my doctor... whilst I was in the hospital overnight, they checked my blood pressure every single hour, took my temperature at the same time, and I had chest and stomach x-rays and a blood test, for diabetes and other stuff. A week after, I received a note from my gp, saying I hadn't had my blood pressure measured for over a year and I was due a blood test for diabetes. Huh??? Where is the liaison between the hospital and gp? Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed, and ignored the letter.

Please please do not ignore the letter.
Go back to your doctor and DEMAND an explanation for the inefficiency between the hospital and your GP.
He is getting paid for you to be on his books whether you go or not.
His computer gives him a direct connection to the hospital so there is no excuse in having a complete diagnoses of your condition.
Don't take no for an answer!! or go beyond him/her.

There is supposed to be a direct link between my doctor and the hospital, but the government have decided to downgrade our hospital and move it to Brighton by Easter next year, which is where I went on the Emergency call. So, I think perhaps the results are taking a little longer than they should to come through to my doctor.
I'm currently waiting for an Ultra-Scan at Brighton Hospital, to determine whether it is what they thought, but as yet, after a space of about 3 months, I haven't heard a peep.
So, as it seems to be doing me the world of good, I carry on with my herbal remedies and my Mangosteen juice. :-)

after 40 years of age a complete master checkup once in a year is compulsory.though you didn't have any complaints yet it should be done once in a year.Always Prevention is better than cure.

i agree with ur opinion of getting regular health check up
more over diseases like blood presssure, diabetes and heart problems are genitical that we get from our parents and grand parents
finally most of these diseases can b prevented to some extent in early onset, and after affected by them also can b controlled to some extent by taking required diet which is sufficient for body and doing regular exercise like going for a brisk walk for 30 minutes and preferably during early mornings

Well like you, I have never visited my doctor for years already. And even if I wanted to, financially we are presently constraint of. My priorities is always for my 3 kids welfare...their education, etc. Sometimes its really hard to read articles of parents that they don't have much time and money to spent for themselves to go to their doctor and have a check-up, and soon to relize that they are sick. But that's what parents are for. We can always sacrifice everything for our children. besides, I know God won't let any bad thing to happen to me with regards to my health. I just live and hold on to my faith.

There are some good self help equipment on the market now that should help us all keep a check on our blood pressure and sugar levels and your local pharmacy should test your cholestrial for free or a small payment so that at least symptoms can be diagnosed early.

Yes, I believe that it's very important to get a physical check up every year. I think there are alot of people that don't want to see a dr because they are afraid to find out that something is wrong with them. But, if there is something wrong, the positive side of it is that it was detected early, and getting treatment right away will save your life. My husband never went to the dr's, unless it was an emergency. When we got married, I started scheduling a physical check up every year - he dreads going, but with the way his family medical history stands, it's important that he is checked. Just because you feel well, doesn't necessarily mean that you really are.

I'm sorry to hear that you went through that. Hopefully this post will turn a light on for someone else and they will begin to see their doctor regularly. I'm glad to hear you're doing well.

Oh I feel for you with all that happened. Thankfully you did catch it in time. That is important. I wish I could go to the doctor but without insurance and very little money coming in it's a luxery at this point. I know it shouldn't be but it is. So if anything gets real bad I go to the ER, at least they will bill me, unlike doctor's offices.

Both my dad and my father in law love to get their physical exams done every year. Normally they come back with a list of elavated levels that they will work on and then go back to get tested again in 6 months. Then they will tell us that the levels are good again and thats when the start their old eating habits again...sigh
Its a good thing that you are still walking and breathing, but I know it must be such a pain having to take all those tablets. I am sure you appreciate all things and people around you very much and keep on passing around the word to go see the doctor. Early detection is good. Thanks for the reminder. Hope you feel better.

i had suffered from chestpains when i was in highschool. i never wanted to visit the doctor because i was thinking that it was just a simple issue. but when i talked to my mum about this, she then rushed me to a clinic to undergo thorough checkup. and then, i was diagnosed to have an IHD (ishecmic heart disease). it was still in an early age so there was no need for us to panic. i still do take the medicines until now. i still have chest pains but not as painful as before. plus i have my emergency medicines with me. it's better to really visit the doctor as early as possible when you feel there's something wrong with your health. it's better to know it in an earlier time than know about your condition too late. and i do appreciate life. i love my life and i wanna live longer for my family and for the man i love. sorry to hear that you're suffering from diabetes and heart disease. but i am glad that you are still strong and willing to fight for life. keep it up!

Well, the problem now a days for most people including myself, is lack of Medical Insurance. That alone can be a Big deterent or $$ for why most people do not get to a Dr. when they should for a checkup, etc. But then it depends on your Dr. you see whether you are getting the best Care possible as well. Sometimes it pays to get a second opinion with some things as well.
I know though that many people have Heatlh issues that are serious, and never get a check up like they should. If they made it easier on everyone to get the Help they need it would save the Hospitals and Insurance companies a lot more $$ in the end.

No need to be scared really as you have read the responses and its great to here that you are going to see the doc.
It's just that in future you know that you can act on what the doctor does or does not find from the check up.
If anything it will be peace of mind.
