about today`s admin notice about spamposts bringing down our ratings

Mylot said: Unaware that these discussions are plagiarized, many users contribute to these discussions. When we delete the plagiarized discussions of user XYZ, our system also deletes the non-offending responses and comments to these discussions. When this happens, user ratings go down the next time each user makes a post, as user ratings are re-calculated. (...) Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

I definitely agree. I just report spam posts if I catch them. It stinks that people out there don't care at all and are willing to bring the site down just to make a few pennies. How pathetic can people get, seriously? It's not that hard to think up your own responses and discussions. I'm just glad Mylot is getting on top of the problem. I wish more people would pay attention to the alerts and rules. It would make things a lot smoother around here!

there will always be folks who won`t follow rules...it`s the nature of the internet (no, the world) :) but if we can help make mylot better, than we definitely should!

I normally don´t respond to a discussion which doesn´t capture my interest but am dismayed to see my money and ratings have gone down when I have tried consistently only to post quality discussions. I agree myLot can´t remove only the posts which break the rules because then the replies to that post would make no sense. I guess it´s just irritating that some spammers and general idiots try to spoil things for everyone else. Hopefully the new system will sort them out.

Yes, that is an example of the point myLot were trying to make.

so in this here example, will my original topic be removed when this user/abuser's posts are deleted? it's unfair to the rest of us here who have been participating correctly! there must be a way mylot can 'block' the part of the thread which has been spammed to, in order to disallow further comment...or something else other than deleting a legitimate discussion because ONE LOSER decided to ruin it for the rest of us.

I think most members do that now. But, when the site first started, that was about 80% of the posts. If they are cleaning them out now, I could see why so many people are affected.

I think that your idea to totally bypass the discussion and then to rate it is a great idea. Someone in an earlier post mentioned that most of us do that anyway,I know I do for one. :D I think even prior to the guidelines being introduced we were all aware that responding to and posting dud discussions (spam, nonsense, incoherent, etc) wasnt contributing anything and would not be paid. My earnings havent been affected as such, so far... I think they have actually increased :S Not complaining...lol

well i am completely with mylot this bloody plagiarization should be minimized as most as possible but while deleting that discussion most of inocent people get affected now i understand the complaints about dercreasing the points of so many users now i will start to give negative points for such plagiarised discussion.

I report them as well. People doing this are ruining the fun for the other honest members and are in fact stealing money as well from all the honest members on Mylot. The situation is already much better then some time ago by the way, if we work together we can improve it even more! xxx

Its not possible for Mylot staffs to track each spam posts... Wht users report is wht they delete.. But its surely is a clever idea not to respond to a spam post because there it does not gives stable points. The points awarded could diminish anytime when someone reports the post as spam. I'm with u

I agree that you should respond to such discussions. I do not respond to them and I always report them. The only thing is when they delete duplicate discussions (not necessarily plagarized, just a discussion that is similiar to another one posted months ago), your number drop. So if you are a new user or haven't seen that particular discussion before, you get penalized. To me it is not that big of a deal, but I know that is still going to bug some people.

well I think that it is good idea and yes I will do my best to make sure that I do not answer to posts that are silly or make no sense or seem to be posts that are just constant plagarizing just for points. I too am an honest mylot user and I know that the reason my points went down because I started on Mylot in September so it makes sense that some of them got deleted so it is cool.

Ok, I think I guess I know now what they consider spam. Somebody using copy and paste to create their own discussions.

Also someone who responds with an answer that has nothing to do with the topic, especially if it's just promoting a link to their Web site or some moneymaking deal.

i wonder if our ratings go down when we constantly give negative ratings to other members? like if the algorithm sees the frequency of our negative vs positive ratings of other users' posts. i hope not, but i can see how this could be used in a case where a dishonest or angry user just wants to get back at random (or specific) mylot users who may or may not have previously given THEM a negative rating ;) kind of grudge-rating.

I'm kind of hesitant to see what happens to my points/earnings the next time I post a discussion (which is when Mylot says we'll notice any adjustment). I posted to a lot of discussions my first week or two (in November) and this was before the rules became adjusted regarding topics, spam, etc. I'm sure at least some of those discussions will be deleted, and my responses with them. But, I guess going forward things will better for the good contributors.

very good idea, count me in, how do we know who is the spammer and who is the original though? im sure this is simple but i dont know

i agree that sometimes, it's hard to tell, but here are 2 hints: if the plagiarized post is in the same discussion, the posts appear chronologically, right? so, whomever's post comes second is the culprit. and if it's a whole discussion that's been ripped off, at the bottom right corner of the discussion you can see how many hours ago the disucssion was opened. compare both discussions to see which one was made second, and if both are very close in time, you have a SUPER SPAMMER haha, coz they were able to rip off someone's discussion presto quick-o ;)
