Is owning a gun REALLY a good idea? / myLot

I know some people say they are for protection, but if the guns weren't so readily available, there wouldn't be such a problem! I'm just interested to hear what everyone thinks because in Ireland even the Gardai (police) don't have guns.

I know how to shoot one but to actually own one. I would say no for me because of my kids.

Depends where you stay? In South Africa I think it is a pretty good idea to have one but in the UK dont think so. I have been in both countries now.

I wouldn't need one here either...though I do go to college in 'stab city'!...there's some sort of gang war thing, but haven't heard anything about it in a long time.
