Good camera for which price range? I agree with the previous commentor about getting a Canon SLR kit but you are talking $800+ for that camera. I have a Canon SLR film body with some extra lenses and other goodies and am holding out on getting a digital until I can scrape together the cash for the digital version. Anyways, without knowing your price range, I can only give you the following suggestions: 1) Test the camera before buying (even if that just means playing with it at the store) 2) Pick a megapixel rating based on what you are planning to do with the pictures. Do most people need a 10 megapixel camera? No. Not unless they plan on printing 36" by 24" copies of their photos. If you only ever plan on printing standard 5" by 4" pictures and you aren't planning on selling off your photography, 3 megapixels really should do fine. 3) Pick something that uses easily available memory. There are a number of types of memory cards out now. The most common is probably SD. Many other devices have built in ports for SD cards (printers, computers/laptops, etc). If you can afford it, get an SLR camera. SLR means single lens reflex. You can buy additional lenses for these cameras (telephoto, wide angle, macro, etc) giving you a lot more options with your pictures. If you can't afford an SLR camera or don't have the need for it, find a nice point and shoot with a reasonable zoom. Most now also allow you to capture video. I myself wouldn't get a point and shoot camera with less than a 12x zoom. I bought an Olympus Camedia D-545 for my wife last year. It is 4 megapixel and seems to have all the nice bells and whistles that $200 could afford. The only thing I don't like is that it seems to go through batteries really quick. Which reminds me... Get rechargable batteries. Buying and throwing out batteries every week or so will quickly run up hidden costs.

Canon is a good make but dont go for anything less than 9 megapixels. Nikon is also a good make and so is sony but I still love canon. You can also add more lenses unto a canon but not with sony though. Hope you come right
