Absolutely. Of course, there are a lot more sitting activities available as distractions these days. We were lucky enough, growing up, to have a lot of tv stations since we lived near a big city. No cable at that time. Nonetheless, there just was not as much draw to stay inside if the weather was nice. We would change out of our school clothes as soon as we got home and run ragged around the neighborhood until mom begged us to come in for dinner. It was just the way everyone did it.

Lately most kids are lazy, and I agree with you, All the movies on tv they can watch and the games they can play on the computer. I had all the kids outside yesterday helping in the garden, and they loved it. Not one of them ran in and put the tv or computer on. That surprised me. These holidays they are all going to do something physical everyday before doing there own think.

In some ways yes, in other ways no. Yes, they do less aorund the house unless they get paid pockeymoney. Also they need constant pushing to do their chores. They are more spoon fed at school - given a lot more information and techniques on how to do things. Also they're allowed to use calculators and scientific calculators - I was only allowed log books or a slide ruler. With comnputers it's so much easier to present work more legibly:) and neatly. Also, I do tend to drive them everywhere (so I know they get there and back) Having said that, all three know how to catch public transport and do so regularly.
But my boys do a lot more exercise than I did. They're into sports which I was not - I wasn't allowed a bicycle but they each have one. They also go out more, I wasn't allowed to go out until I was almost 20!

Children today do not feel the need to go outside to play. They would rather sit inside in front of the boob tube playing games or watching programs. This does not promote imagination or healthy lifestyles.

You are absolutely right kids these days have become very lazy and lethargic and the only thing which is contributing to this I can guess is nothing but the television and somewhat the computers. The children even when are growing up have easy access to the television and hence end up being a couch potatoes rather than being active and getting out to play. The parents also play a major role for them being like this as we also have become lazy and prefer the children to watch TV rather than going out to play, etc. Due to this, children become obese and lethargic, this is evident with the recent news and surveys coming out about the children being very obese these days due to junk foods and not being active and lazy due to various factors like television and computers.

Depends on the parents. Childhood obesity is becoming a problem. Most kids sit on the couch playing games and watching tv. I remember years ago we used to go outside and play all the time.

I suppose they are lazier. I have one child who lazes around in front of the TV and won't life a finger around the house. It drives me mad! My older daughter is very involved in sports. She wants to stay active and physically fit. She likes TV, Gameboy and reading, but she participates in any activity she can.
I remember playing outside when I was a kid, running around the neighbourhood, playing hide and seek. Sadly, our neighbourhoods today are not as safe as they were back then. I believe my neighbourhood is relatively safe and let my children play outside, but their friends' parents are not as lenient - or maybe they are TOO lenient and are letting them sit in front of video games all day. And this causes obesity in our children. Sad, really.
