In just a span of few months, two of my very good friends broke up with their long-time boyfriends.
One of my bestfriends from college was in a seemingly strong, stable relationship 5 years in the running, when all of a sudden, her boyfriend broke off there relationship. Amidst all the crying sessions, amateur pschoanalyses of concerned girlfriends, and tear-filled retelling of the break-up experience, one thing that her boyfriend said stuck to me. He told my friend that he just woke up one day and realized that he doesn't love my friend anymore. It's really beyond my understanding how a person can love someone everyday for five whole years, and then suddenly have a bout of "emotional amnesia". And he really did love my friend, we were witness to their five years togetehr. He was talking about marriage and kids already. They had a great relationship, lovers who were great friends as well. So what happened here??? Is this common? What can guys say about the phenomenon I choose to call "emotional amnesia"? I'm not saying that he's a jerk, but is he? I'll relate the story of my other friend in my next post. Comments would be very much appreciated...
