From Rags to Riches - a true story
There was a young boy who grew up under very adverse conditions. When he was four years old, his alcoholic mother was taken away from him. By age twelve, he'd lost his father to mental illness, which resulted in the breakup of his family. He lost his six brothers and two sisters to foster homes and divorce. For the next three years, the young boy had gone through twelve foster and receiving homes, was in the youth center six times, and at the age of fifteen he was sent to a boys' correctional facility by a judge who said he would never amount to anything.
Drugs and alcohol had already begun to plague this young boy's life. Stripped of his family and abused in foster care, the young boy struck back with hate and rebellion. When he was sixteen, the courts gave up and emancipated him as a legal guardian and sent him out to live on the streets. He was forced to sleep in garbage cans and eventually had to sell his body to get food. Once he was even trapped in China Town, beaten, stabbed twice in the back with an umbrella, and forced into slavery until he finally escaped.
One day a barroom bouncer named Joe Schumintzer found this young boy in an alley and spent several weeks trying to help him. Joe encouraged the devastated boy who'd lived on "skid row" for almost two years. He helped the young boy enlist into the United States Marine Corp. The young boy's hate and bitterness turned him into a fine killing machine with expertise in hand-to-hand combat, martial arts, and small arms expert training. He excelled through the Marine Corps, receiving three meritorious masses, a two-star general's letter of commendation, and a medal from the Secretary of the Navy for heroism.
But at age 21, the hateful and hurting young boy, who was still on drugs and alcohol, witnessed a tragedy that changed his life. He was hit by an eighteen-wheeler semi truck and a woman who was injured in the accident died in his arms. But he miraculously escaped instant death. An audible voice spoke to the young boy that this was his last chance.
He went to various churches looking for deliverance but no one seemed to have the power to set him free. Six months after the accident and still searching, the young boy walked into a United Pentecostal Church. He received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues (see Acts 2:38), and was instantly delivered from his severe addictions and bad habits. He was then baptized in Jesus' name and for the last eighteen years has led an amazing and victorious life. He contributes his success to the book of Acts experience and says it is alive, powerful, and working in his life. And I can testify of this young boy's life and the power of the Holy Ghost that set him free. Because, you see, I was that young boy.
Signed,
SPIDERMAN
