With the Red Sox bidding as absurdly as the Yankees, and both spending ridiculous amounts of money to bring in talent, who's the evil empire of baseball?

The Red Sox are desperate! Everyone in Boston knows that they cant have another 3rd place finish. If they do, someone is fired, or gonna be assasinated! Getting swept 5 games in a row by the same team in 3 days, cant happen unless your the CUBS. I dont think the Expos ever got swept by the same team 5 games in a row. JD Drew was a good move but its not the answer. No one can tell how the new Japanese guy will do

So how do you feel about the Yanks paying Pettite who hasn't been nearly as good as the last time he was with the Yankees $16 million for one year? I mean yes the Yanks need pitching, but at what point do we stop paying veterans more than they deserve (i.e. Kevin Brown) and start brining in some solid young guys? I agree with you that there's no way we can possibly know how Daisuke Matsuzaka is going to pitch and the price was steep as it always is with Boras, but he was the WBC MVP and he's young, what's he 26 ? I like that Epstein thinks he can go toe to toe with Stienbrenner... I know the Yanks are looking to sign Kei Igawa who they secured the right to negotiate with for $26 million. Absurd. Their number one starter is CHien-Ming Wang.... not good. I guess the real question is where does Clemens end up?

Good thought, buttttt. I understand Andy was a gamble, but here is how i look at it. The staff has experience, but with Andy it brings a level of experience that only Mussina and Johnson have, and hopefully he can rub it off on the young guys, but hell, Randy just needs to figure it out dot com. Quit being a puss, Mike is almost done but still has great seasons. I wish they would have gone after Barry Zito, but, who knows how Igawa is gonna do, he is no Matsuzaka, but i dont think he was worth 26 mill. They need to be wise with their money, and go after good young quality players. They should have kept Gary and traded him for better player. Think of it, Johnny, Jeter, A-rod, Jason or Bobby, Hideki or bobby, Jorge, Melky, Robinson, pretttty dan good lineup, Chien, Mike, Andy, Randy, Carl, pretty damn good lineup and rotation. I was but not anymore a fan of Roger. he needs to retire, if he goes back to New York, you can bring the Championship to us.

I'm just someone who believes so much in the dynamics of a team and I thought that one of the biggest sparks for the Yankees down the stretch last year was the play of Melky. The Yankees have such an aura of professionalism (which I don't necessarily disagree with), but I though Melky helped provide some of that balance of young "I'm here to have fun" persona that the Yankees could use a little bit of. No doubt, on paper they're the best team, but everyone knows paper doesn't mean squat. Look at what Jerry Sloan is doing with marginal talent in Utah right now. I thought with the Stros and Sox made their run two years ago both had unbelievable team chemistry. I think the Yankees have too many guys that treat it like a business and not enough like a game.

You and I disagree there. Manny is a very talented ball player with a lot of character so it's easy to see why so many people like him. He's also an RBI machine in the middle of that Sox order with Big Papi. It's just that he's a little to self-absorbed for me. I hear the Red Sox might be shipping him out. What do you think about that? Where might he end up? Who fills that void?
