About 3 years back i had this allergy of a medicine named reglan. You must have read it in one of my posts. I had dystonia. My tongue rolled out on its own and my jaws opened wide without my control. I was in pain both physically nad mentally. I didnt know what had happened to me. I felt like i had a paralysis attack...but i had movement. I had lost control over my mouth in general. My husband took me to the urgent care first. The doctor there did my check up for almost half an hour and later said he had no treatment for this and asked us to go to the emergency. My symptoms were getting worse. My jaw would open more wide and my toungue started making rhythmtic movements. After waiting for about 5 and a half hours in the ER my husband asked a nurse to let me in soon. He was getting worried and i was almost shouting with pain. The nurse responed with a rude remark...she said " Your wife isnt going to die...there are other patients who have to be treated first" Well, i understand that there were other patients in the line and everyone wanted to be treated.....but why so much wait? One of the patients asked us to go first but the nurse refused. Other people were praying for me who saw this horrifying incidence. After waiting that long finally it was my turn and i was given a benadryl shot and the symptoms subsided slowly. It was not a life threatening situation but it could have damaged my nervous system for life. I was new to US then and its medical system in general. Do you think such things happen in all the ERs and urgent cares? Why is it called ER and urgent care after all? Do they have less staff there?
