best place to go in rome?

for you what is the best place to go in rome? i would love to go to the historic places, and the Vatican

I never been in Rome, but I will try to go in the future. Many people tells me it is a great place to visit.

for me two places are a must, the vatican on a thursday when the pope comes out and drives round st peters sqare and the coloseum which is still majestic
