Baby names - are they getting too elaborate nowadays?

1 Jacob Emily
2 Michael Emma
3 Joshua Madison
4 Matthew Abigail
5 Ethan Olivia
6 Andrew Isabella
7 Daniel Hannah
8 Anthony Samantha
9 Christopher Ava
10 Joseph Ashley
These are the top 10 baby names for 2005, but I have seen some which are a LOT more unique, lots of vowels, etc. or a special way to spell the name (like Charrhonda, which I assumed would be Sharonda but I guess not!)
What do you think, are they too fancy now?

I can understand wanting your child to have a unique name but some these days are just over the top. My oldest daughters name is Lauren (she spells is Lauryn) and her middle name is Ashley I was torn between the two names but now I see tons of them. I like the concept of unique spelling but I would hope my kids could learn how to spell it before they got into school but I doubt alot of them can these days LOL

We've had problems with our son's name, Zackary. Everyone seems to think we spelled it wrong! I don't know how many times we had to go to the school and fix it. We didn't want to spell it with an "H". The downside is, however, that "custom" items sold in stores very seldom spell his name the way we did. We've also custom ordered things online and had to return them because someone ASSUMED we had made a typo and "fixed" it for us, causing it to be spelled wrong.
My husband has the same problem. His middle name is Scot, with one "T". Most of his awards and military stuff is spelled Scott. They ASSUME the extra "T" is supposed to be there. Like he wouldn't know how to spell his own name?
It gets old, but that's what happens when you try to be a little different, I guess. :P

I've seen the same problem with Derrick or Derek or Deric. I work in customer service and I see wierd names all the time, I actually talked to someone named Ying Yang (I swear to God). Then of course you find other ones like girls named Princess (why would you name your kid that?), and funny ones like John Hung *grin*. It's fun, last New Years my friends and I were name searching and found Jim Beam from Oklahoma, 5 Jack Daniels and even a Jose Cuervo from Florida, ha ha. No Captain Morgan, though, *grin*

My neices are Nicholette, Maci, Lexi, Kaylin, and Micheala... those are all a little strange.
I like for a girl Arriana, Aja and Melia.
I have seen my name spelled Genipher before... weird but more interesting.

Wow those are all difficult to spell! I couldn't guess the spelling if those names were told to me anyway!

All of the names above, except for the last one you quoted, sound normal to me.

Ha! I agree. I'm not saying that you can't name your children what you want but don't be offended when nobody knows how to spell their name. I actually get that at work sometimes, someone will call and I'll be like (for example, my name Stephanie), "and that's ph or with an f and anie" (like stefanie) and they'll say "NO! It's stefany" and get all mad that I didn't know how to spell it. SORRY. :(

If I ever have kids (and I doubt I will) it's going to be Rosalyn Victoria & Quentin Dehaven. Easy to spell for the most part and not too fancy.

I think it's funny when people get so mad because you don't know how to spell their name when they spell is some weird way. It has never bothered me having people ask how to spell my name. I guess my name is easy, though, so other than the "C or K" question it's not usually a problem.
My son's name is Elliott. When we named him that, we thought that was the more popular way of spelling it. Apparently we were wrong, though! We get it spelled Elliot or Eliot a lot. I don't like the way it looks when it's spelled either of those ways, though. But it doesn't bother us. We just correct them and go on. If we had wanted our son to have a name that everyone else has, we would have given him his middle name (Michael) as his first name.

I guess it is up to the person's taste. I think these names are cool. I like Joshua Evan and Gabriella Elizabeth. But it is truly up to what you prefer.

According to numerology our names mean certain things. As does the date of birth. Choose a name that you like, regardless if it is old fashioned, modern or too fancy. It is your choice. One thing though, Why are they mixing girl and boys names together?
