as a mother, would you leave your family to work abroad?

in my country there is nothing new about mothers working abroad to earn a decent income. there is nothing wrong with working away from the family if that's the only option, but i think it should be the father, not the mother, who should do so. children, especially those in their formative years, should be left with the mother who could nurture them and bring them up properly. ideally, both parents should be there to rear kids, but if left with no choice, then i think the father should go.

i was about to leave for vietnam last year to do a tutoring job for 3 Filipino kids. I was offered a fairly good offer. Eveything was ready from my plane ticket to my living allowance. Suddenly my mom just cried the day before i would be leaving and discouraged me to do what i will do. I have 2 kids one is going 5 and one is going 2. She told me that I must look after my kids first when they grow old enough to remember me. So i just backed out from the offer, i realized she was right and what is good to know that the kids i should be tutoring just went home here in the Philippines to finish their studies here instead.

thanks for the comment, coolchai! that was a good decision you made. kids that young should not be left with the father or the relatives, if you had a choice. but anyway, it's a blessing in disguise, right, because the kids you were supposed to tutor came back here. imagine what could have happened if you pursued your plans and then the mother's kids decided to send them back here... :)

it should be the mother who will stay beside their kids but due to some reasons like poverty some mothers go to abroad to work. They will do everything just to give her kids a bright future with her own expense even if she will be away from her family.
