Spanking your Kids?

I'm kind of torn on this subject because I grew up getting spanked so naturally, I've done it to my kids. But at the same time, does it make sense to spank a child, when you're pretty much telling them it's ok to hit people? That's like trying to stop violence with violence, it does'nt really make sense.

Sure spanking is okay and it is necessary sometimes. Of course, there will always be dumb people who abuse the idea.
