I was wandering if anyone else out there is dealing with Autism spectrum disorder in teen yers? I find it especially difficult, just because it breaks my heart to see my 13 year old son be so heartbroken. I find that people in general do not accept these individuals for who they are . they are beautiful beautiful people. Let me know. DeeDee

yes it can be very difficult in teen years---often teens with autism have real trouble with making friends. Teen years are very problematic for typically developing children and then when you add the challenges that come with autism--it is extra hard.
Do you have any programs or social groups for autistic teens in your area? Sometimes local YMCA's have social programs for special needs folks also.
Joining a scout troop or drama club is another option--yet it ussually requires some adult to assist with the special problems that may arise--
I do agree about how beautiful many people I know with autism are---and if you can find some way to take what your childs interests might be shared with others--perhaps others would see the same beauty you know-----for instance---
if the child is gifted visually---perhaps an art class or assisting in painting parts of the school play set?
I feel for you---and am glad you see the beauty in your son!

Yes , he is doing alright. he has had a few problems but at least he has been able to stay in school all day. We found conclusively that he has PDD/Aspergers Syndrome. Thanks for all your helpful info!

Hi my son is 17 and found his teen years ery difficult because being in your teens is all about discovering yourself and connecting to peers. If you are autistic this is very difficult. So we sought better professional help and he now goes to a group for autistic young people. Also he's involved in certain therapies thath help him to cope better with emotions like music therapy or drama.
I agree our children are beautiful people. Seek help so you can full develop his beauty.
