Three years rigorous imprisonment for a culpable homicide not amounting to murder - upcoming Punjab elections - what can be seen over is 3rd grade filthy politics! Yes,I'm talking about the conviction of Navjot Singh Sidhu. Navjot Singh Sidhu has been convicted of culpable homicide. In a shocking accident 18 years ago, Sidhu slapped a person in a road rage, leading to his death. If you look at it, you will find that this is something that could've happened to anyone of us. But for slapping someone, if you are sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment, this makes you question the ethicality of the judgement. This is in no way to say that Sidhu is innocent. He has indeed erred and deserves an appropriate punishment for it. Some people compare this case with that of Shibu Soren. First of all, Navjot Singh Sidhu was not into politics when this accident happened. Also, Soren's case is that of a henious crime where the murder was actually planned and executed. Secondly, Sidhu's case is not even comparable with Salman Khan's(who ran over some people in his car presumed while being in a drunken state). Sidhu had neither the idea nor the intention that the middle-aged man (Gurnam Singh) would die on receiving a few blows of the fist. I'm sure you too must have fought with your peers that way in school or college. Would that account to a rigorous imprisonment? Now this is what was reported way back in 1988 when the whole episode took place. While overtaking Sidhu's car, and even before -- while trying to overtake, Gurnam Singh was constantly showering expletives in the name of Sidhu's parents. Then Gurnam Singh might have thought his abuses were not clearly audible. So he overtook Sidhu's car, stopped his car in front of Sidhu's; came out and hurled abuses at Sidhu again. That was provocation enough. Sidhu rushed out of his car in a fit of rage and physically assaulted Gurnam Singh and the latter, later succumbed to internal injury. Such an incident could happen to anyone of us. That does not make us cold-blooded murderers, does it? Isn't it a complete mockery on the part of the High Court?

Siddhu - Batsman and Great Cricket Commentator
I think its a right sentence for Navjot. But he also qualified as a politician. He got a term in prison.Thats one thing he should be proud of.His commentator career is on hold for the moment but i think he'll bounce back.

Friend ur narration of the incident which occured 18 yrs back is clear indication that u was accompnying the murderer that time. But cool down friend, Siddhu got what he deserved. He is not a cold blooded murderer thats why he didnt get lifer or noose, but as a murderer who has no sense of repentence deserve a bit more than three year rigorous punishment in jail. not so well done high court, but still not too bad too. I m sure that his mates in jail needs some Siddhuisms from him. TV audience is fed up of his mad lke attitude I think. And lastly, the temperament he often shows on TV is enough indication that it must be him who broke into the fit of rage and assaulted poor Gurnam, who was bread winner for his family. So he clearly deserves the punishment he got. Regards.

I have over the years liked and admired Navjot Singh Sidhu both as a cricket player who hit sixes off shane warne, is a respected commentator with his sidhusims entertained the public and caught fancy of public, as first time MP from amritsar in last general elections and then as judge of star tv laughter comedy show. He comes across as a very decent, honest, frank and god fearing person who is very witty and funny but talk sense. he is very patriotic and genuinely nice person. i think we shouldn't cruicfy sidhy for one blunder he made at young age. But i think that there is no question that we can qquestion court's decision. as i have lots of regard and respects for the courts and respect law. I think we as media nad public shouldn't first rise our heroes to pedestalone day and crucify them another because they are the same person. I think sidhu is victim of road rage and should be seerna s such. Road rage is very normal in streets of india which should be controlled and public sensitised about it. i know sidhu meditates and is god fearing man and is a fighter toa core and he will come back strongly and entertain all of us again.

you know something sidhu is freak. He does everything over. You should see him while commentating or as a guest in the TV shows , he is simply overexcited and that's what made him do that stupid thing in 1988. Personally I feel it is just politics being played ny other parties thats it. SIdhu got what is required(three years). personally i don't like this idiot(sidhu)

I like Sidhu so much.. All that I knew about him was that he use to play for India and now making commentaries... I din't know about all these cases of Sidhu, Sibu Soren and Salman khan... I really came to know all these only after reading your question! Well, when I get anger I also do the same! Its natural..:(

yes, it is a mockery by the high court and sidhu was not guilty at all to that extent.what circumstances you have stated are very correct and i was also following sidhu case right from the begining.he was not at fault.under the circumstances, even me or you or anybody for that matter would have done the samething.very unfortunate on the part of law.

Well, from what I have read on the matter, there was no "slap-fight", rather Siddhu gave Gurnam Singh a "beating". Also I found no mention of Gurnam Singh hurling abuses at Siddhu. So from what I have read, I would say justice has been delivered.

You havent understood it. Sidhu killed a man. He should have waited for the police, which he dint do. He should be hung.
