How does the general public feel about our borders?

I live in California with an open border to Mexico. My opinion is nothing against Mexican people. I just think that we should close our borders where the government is corrupt and where there is such bad security that the risk of terrorists coming to the US is very high. I also believe that if you plan on coming to this country; no one owes you anything and stop expecting us to change our ways to accomodate you. Our government makes it too easy. It's a shame. What is your thoughts?

I live in Texas and I believe that its borders should be tightened. If they found us in their country illegally they sure wouldn't treat us nicely. I have no problem if they want to come into this country as long as they do it legally. Whether or not Texas was a part of Mexico in the past - its not now. In fact it was its own country for a short time. I resent being passed over for jobs because I'm not bilingual when our language is English. And by the way - notice the last name is Garcia.

Feels great to see other's agreeing. I had a much longer answer but I lost it. I hope this myLot doesn't start acting like Myspace. You all have great points. I was not born in this country and my parents worked their butts off to make a good life here. No one ever gave them anything, we never got welfare or free medical. We qualified for free lunch at school and my dad wouldn't have it. He has pride and integrity and made sure we had lunches made from home. It burns me when I see people coming over the border and take what we pay in our tax dollars. They don't pay the ER they go see, we pay for it when it's deducted out of our paychecks for coverage and even that isn't so wonderful. Liberals say that we should all just get along, we are all one, there should be no borders. Well, when everyone starts doing their fair share and starts carrying their own weight, then I don't see a problem. Why am I to be concerned with a person who is here iligally and gives birth if I need to take care of my own kids, and I'm working and paying daycare and sitting in traffic day after day? I say, so fix your own country and let us have our little piece we work hard to maintain every day.

It sure wouldn't be like they want to be treated here. I have no problem if they want to come here legally. But I resent being passed over for jobs because I'm not bilingual when our language is English. As for Texas and other states being part of Mexico at one time - its not now. In fact Texas was its own country for a short time. By the way, notice the last name is Garcia.

I definately think that borders should be closed and illegal imigrants should not be allowed to live and thrive in our country. Why? here is what I see: 1. I see illegal imigrants coming over our borders and getting jobs that Americans need, as well as using our tax dollars (because they dont pay taxes) for welfare or whatever other state or federal assistance that they may recieve. 2. I see them being given rights beyond our own. Example. I went to the DMV to get tags on my car after just moving here to Oregon (mind you illegal imigrants can get drivers licenses now) and did not have any proof of address, they werent going to register my car for me! his words were "Only Oregon residents are entitled to Oregon registration." So you mean to tell me that someone that is not even a US resident can get registration, but me, who pays taxes cant even register my car??! What is that all about. Now on the other side of the coin, I feel that under certain circumstances, SEVER circumstances (excaping a tyrannus government under which you may be killed for leaving) the US should grant some sort of citizenship only under the condition of the imigrant obtaining gainful employment and contributing. They should track these imigrants and basically give them a probationary period so to speak, under which they learn our language and abide by our laws. The imigrants came to this country, we did not go there, so speak our language or get out, dont expect us to cater to you! There is just my opionion....however bold it may be.

I agree with you completely. I live in Texas and feel that the borders are completly under patrolled. The area around the borden on U.S. side is unsafe and to protect our citizens it should be closed. But what upsets me the most is the accomidations we are expected to make. Signs in spanish, Labels in spanish, mandatory spanish classes for children in school. It's all ridiclous.

I agree with you 100%. This is the USA, and ENGLISH is the main language here. So anyone who enters our country to live, learn the language. I dont agree with having to cater to other countries, i.e. labels and signs in spanish as you said, and what's with Mexicans having their own tv channel? If you choose to move here, then adhere to OUR way of life. Otherwise, stay in your own country. It's amazing how many Mexicans are in our country "illegally". We need more security on these borders.

We could solve the problem by issuing hunting licenses and creating a free-fire zone 200 meters in from the river. HH

As long as patriots donot rule the country, this is certain to remain. But it is a bad experience that patriots only die for the country and the politicians drain the country. I think in India, in the olden day as the history reads, all were happy under the rulings of Kings.

immigration - immigration
i do believe tht all countries shold follow the policy of closed borders.then most of our problms would be over.it is a pity that ost of the governments are actually encouraging this kind of illegal immigration across the border.take for example, india.here not only is the pakistan governmet encouraging illegal immigration but is also sendinig terrorists across the border.to ut it in perspective for you imagine your mexican help is gunning for you literally aftr illegally coming into your country,i also agree with you that just for the illegal immigrants we should not be expected to change our ways! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration http://www.immihelp.com/ http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

People are not going to stop illegaly entering this country. They are running from their problems back home, but they need to stay and correct those problems, not run to us. I do feel for these people, because they are seeking a better life, but we can not just let them come in and do as they please. That is why we have laws. If they want to become citizen, they should be allowed to follow the procedure for doing so. No one should be able to receive the benefits of being a citizen without having the responsibilites which come along with it.

Personally, while I'm all for "borders", I think the whole idea of building a wall is stupid. I'm from Los Angeles, and I see the problems myself.. but come on. Do we need another "Great Wall of China"??
