Wall-Mart did stop all lay-aways at all the Wal-Marts. Our daughter warned us they were gong to do it and then after the lay-away date on Dec 8 was reached they closed them. My husband asked why. The reply he got was that it wasn't used enough. Can you imagine that.

I know. there is already a few things I would like to put on lay-a-way there but since they don't have it I guess I'll look else where to put the items on lay-away. To my way of thinking they will lose more then they gain.

All of the wal*marts here in Kentucky has gotten away from the lay away. They have even gone so far as to put other things in the places where layaway used to be.

Sadly they have gotten rid of the layway. I agree it makes no sense to me either and really makes things hard on many people. I know many who especially used it during the holidays to be able buy things for their family. To try and buy it all at once isn't always easy for them. I wish they would get it back as well but maybe once they see sales going down they might, especially on bigger items. We thought of getting a few things and put it in there, like a game console, but since we can't we cannot afford to buy it all at once so we don't have it. I doubt we will be able to either.

I believe that the layaway issue is affecting all Walmarts. At least that is what I heard.

That is something Walmart messed up on. I mean they are losing a lot of money by taking layaway out.

I have two cousins who work at walmart, I was told they did this because of more people shopping online and they wanted to push walmart cards. I have never been crazy about wal-mart but I think many people took advantage of the layaways, especially at christmas.

Ours stopped layaway as well. I'm not sure why, but I had a thought that they may be doing that to push credit card business. didn't know if instead of layaway they would encourage you to get a wal-mart credit card and just put the high-dollar purchases on it -- that way they could earn interest from it. haven't tried it, so I don't know if that's even an option.

They did take them all away. They were losing money because of the system Wal-Mart has in place. Many larger or more expensive items tend to be put on sale after a while to move them along and make room for more big and expensive items. Because the stuff was sitting in the layaway bins untouched it was depreciating in value, going on rollback or clearance for ridiculous low sums of money. I know I used to take advantage of that system myself, putting shoes (back when I worked in the shoe department) on layaway for the minimum deposit and letting the layaway time expire so they ended up back out on the floor for a buck or so. It probably wasn't the most ethical thing to do, but I'm hardly alone. Anyway, yeah that's why layaway was yanked. I miss it myself, but I have learned how to save money better, which is a result of having lost layaway.

it happened the same way here in Florida. I know my best freind was stressing about her 2 boys who are 5 and 4. her and her Husband have it rough and so did I. I wish we had a target. We have a Big K but they don't have as much as our Super Walmart does.

I generally like Wal-Mart, but I think getting rid of layaway was a bad idea too. We used it mostly around Christmas or birthdays, but we weren't happy to learn they were ending the layaway program. I do think they'll lose money. Cutting customer service never seems like a good idea.

I work for wal-mart and were i worked was layaway. After it closed i was forced to step down to a cashier and lose my pay that i got for layaway. But i have heard recently that wal-mart is starting a new service called site to store where you can order items of the walmart.com site and have it shipped to the store of your choice. They are setting this area up where layaway used to be. Our store already has everything ready we are just waiting for it to start. I guess they think that this will make up for getting rid of layaway. While we were setting the registers back up we had tons of customers asking us if they were bringing layaway back.
