Growing up and also raising my own children, we would read a book called The Sweet Smells of Christmas. It was a scratch and sniff book that had various scents of the holiday season. Everything from hot cocoa to pine and everything in between. What's the one scent that the minute you smell it reminds you of Christmas?
For me it's peppermint or pine!

Gingerbread. We always bake gingerbread around Christmastime, usually when we decorate the Christmas tree. There'd be carols and everything, and the whole family would be together. So the smell of baking gingerbread is what makes me think of Christmas.

There is a heritage behind burning a mullberry candle. You're supposed to light it Christmas eve and never blow it out. When it burns out it fills the house with good luck for the year. My dad does this out of tradition of his mother who always did it when he was a child.

oops.. nope.. the pic wasn't of the book! lol DUH
I could only find one pic and it was in png format so I didn't bother using it. But check with Amazon, I'm sure they have it and I am pretty sure it's still in print!

I love the smell of the toasted almonds in our mall around Christmas time. I love getting a bag while I am Christmas shopping.

I love the smell of pine. Up until I met my current husband we always had fake trees, but he insists on real ones. They may cost a bit more, but he always makes sure we have one. It's one of the many special things that makes me love him that much more.

They say live trees are actually better for the environment too. When you 'toss them out', they become mulch. Fake trees last a while but when you toss them out they fill a landfill. While the real tree grows it provides so many wonderful things to the environment, including oxygen. The fake tree creates pollutants being created and some are even known to carry toxins once they are made. I never really thought about it but my dad pointed it out to me. Now I half want my real tree again.. but I can't put it up myself and the needles in the floor drive me nuts!

The smell of the Christmas tree and the aroma of a turkey roasting in the oven.
I remember playing with the branches so the needles would release the heavenly pine scent into the air.

For me it had to be the smell of the roast turkey with herb stuffing. We had a very large family and the turkey took four hours to cook. The wait for dinner was nothing less than torture, but it was worth it.

All of these smells remind me of christmas...Pine, mint, roasted turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, cookies, smoke from the fireplace. Christmas is a magical time!
