As a Pagan/Wiccan what do you do for the "Holidays"?

My parents were brought up Catholic, and although my mom is now Wiccan and I am pagan, we celelbrate Christmas more as a chance for family to come together. What do you do for the holidays? Have you made it your own or do you have a different ritual? I'm curious to hear the different ways we all celebrate.

My husband and I try to see as much of the family as possible. Especially since I've lost most of mine over the years, family has come to mean much more than religion at this point. Plus, no one in either family really has any overly religious habits on the day so its very easy for me to get along! LOL (plus there is lots of pie!!) Christmas and Yule are VERY simmilar in fact! So its definitly a holiday that doesn't give me any problems...Now if I was Jewish and not Wiccan...

I celebrate both Yule and Christmas. I'm Wiccan, so Yule is my holiday. But I was raised Christian (very liberal Protestant) and my family is still Christian, so I enjoy Christmas with them. I'm "out of the broom closet" to my family so they know about Yule, and my mom even likes to do something for Yule if we can get together. :) This week, on Friday morning, I'll be celebrating with a few friends on the banks of the local river, watching the sun rise. I think it will be great! Happy Yule! ~Wyrdsister

Well, our celebration starts at night fall. We begin with dinner. Something not too heavy to make all sleepy and too full. This year it will be a goose, veggies, and some bread. :) No brad of me though, of course. grrrr But then we have our ritual. Which is wonderful because I have seven children and they all play a part of the ritual. Then, of course, we have the burning of the Yule log during the ritual. We each write on a piece of paper want we are putting behind us and what we plan on looking forward to. Once the ritual is complete. We open presents and have S'mores. This year, even though I know I should not....I have been good for a very long time....I am going to eat one S'more! I have been looking forward to it all month!!!! Then we sit up talking and watching movies until one by one fall alseep and get sent to bed. Now, of course because the Yule is from sun down to sun up, come the next morning, Santa has filled their stockings! :) I love seeing the kids faces during this time of year. Filled with magick and joy of love! See, we have the rule that each person can give only one present to each person. That is...even if they made it! They put so much thought into making each other things. That they can not wait for the other to open the present! (Did I mention that I have seven children? It is loads of fun with that many kids!)

What a great tradition!! I will share this one with my mom and see what we might be able to incorporate into our day. My aunt gave us a bayberry candle, and as I am a candle burner, I was thrilled! We will burn that candle throughout the day of Christmas Eve (they are supposed to burn real slow, and those who burn them are to have good luck thourghout the new year, old colonial tradition, and anything helps, and as I burn multiple candles anyway, why not?). As for making presents for eachother, I have done that for years. I am a crafty person, and prefer to make thing for people I care about rather than myself. This year I went cookie crazy, I won;t give details, because you'll just get hungry. But thank you for your description, I love the ideas! 7 kids?! my husband would pass out! We haven't started on the first yet!

Thank you for liking our tradition and telling me you will share it with your mother. That is very wonderful! I also love burning candles. Around this time of year, they sell pine scented tea light candles. So I will have 10 lite are once on top of my enertainment stand with the flames dancing around my fairies. :) I have some metallic tea light holders that give it such color, it is so pretty. Do you have a Old Time Pottery near you? They have Candlelite Candles that burn evenly and slowly for great prices! And they also have a wide variety of candles to choose from. Did I say that I love candles too? LOL That burning a candle all day on Christmase sounds like a great tradition. Good luck, huh? Well, it couldn't hurt! I will probably be burning candle all day come the Yule also. :) You went cookie crazy? That's awesome! Have you ever made Mason jars that had everything in the recipe needed except the egg and water? Decorate with some fabric and they also make wonderful gifts. Great for a decoration in one's kitchen but also settles a sweet tooth when one is looking for something at night after dinner to make. :) Thanks for sharing also!

I usually either try to combine the holidays or celebrate both of them seperately. Not 'cause I'm christian, I'm not. My Dad and alot of his family are, Grandma's cool 'bout all things supernatural..and Mom's just always been laid back about faith in general. Yule, the sosltice has increasingly become a private celebration just between me and my best friend. I might do a small ritual, say a prayer and spend some time in solemn thought that day..and then a few days later I celebrate christmas. Not the birth of Jesus, no. The tree, the lights, feasting, and presents. An excuse to have fun. 'Sides, the feasting and tree thing was originally a pagan idea to begin with for the solstice lol.
