Ok, I don't think this has been discussed, because i made a search, and nothing came up. If it did show up in another post, i apologize. I just want to read people's views on this matter. A jewish group told malls in the USA to put up their Hannukah Chandelier in the malls or else they'd sue them. The malls just removed their Christmas trees instead. What do you think of this issue? Were the jewish right to ask this? WHere the people responsible for the mall right or wrong in removing the Christmas trees? Here are my thoughts. FIrst of all, I am not racist or have any hate towards any religion. BUT, people that come to other ones' countries, shoudl respect those people, and accept their way of life. If we go in other countries, we will do as they do right? So why people think when they come to America, they will dictate the people there on how to live??

I think that if a public place displays the icons of one holiday, they should display the icons of the other holidays as well. It's a public place. People of all walks of life come to malls. There was no reason to remove Christmas trees, that's just stupid. Why not put up Jewish decorations? America is supposedly all about diversity and celebrating all aspects of our culture. Christmas isn't an American thing. And Jewish people have been in America pretty much since this country was founded. I don't see what respecting a country's way of life has to do with anything here. There's no national religion in America. And the whole reason there's no natural religion is because this country has always promoted religious freedom and the acceptance of all religions. By focusing only on a stolen Christian holiday (Christmas was not Christian in origin), that's pretty unconstitutional.

Yes, i understand what you're saying. It is a free country and people should be able to follow whichever religion they choose. But I'm sure if we told a jewish community to put up our Christmas trees in their local mall, they wouldn't want. That's all I'm saying, why make trouble? SOme places are more jewish, some more catholic, some more islamist and so on.

All the Jewish communities I've ever been to/lived in have had Christmas trees up in public areas. Malls, parks, etc. Right along with their Jewish decorations. Private businesses were different, but the public places always had a good showing for both major winter holidays. Speaking as a Christian, we tend to be the most intolerant when it comes to other religions. Which I can't stand, since we're supposed to be all about acceptance and respect. Seeing decorations for another holiday is not going to hurt anyone. It's not going to have an effect on anything. It's pretty lights and pretty candles and pretty shiny gold things. If someone doesn't believe in the faith behind them, then they're meaningless and harmless. I really don't see what the big deal is.

You do have a point, Christmas trees don't really have any specific religion. It's more like a winter decor i'd say. Thx for posting and Merry Christmas!

Both Jews and Christians have lived in North America for a long time. You know if there wasn't a Jewish religion there wouldn't be Christianity. You know, Jesus went to the temple to celebrate Hannukah. Oooo, shock, huh? He also celebrated Passover, not Easter...because He is the whole reason for Easter. But people who run public areas should know enough that if they are going to put up Christmas Decor they should also be willing to put up Hannukah decor. If they are willing to do that, then they should be willing to put up Kwaanza decor also... It's not a matter of one or the other, it's a matter of respect and peaceful interaction. Get a clue America. Get a clue World.

I understand your point of view, but then it means they sould put up every decor for every religion present in the country?
