I take Ginger Root extract for motion sickness when flying. You can get it at a vitamin store or health-food store. You take it with a high-carbohydrate beverage (like a glass of orange juice) about 30 minutes before flying. It is pretty inexpensive, works well for me, and has no side effects.
Another option is Dramamine or Scopalamine patches, but they have side effects- they cause sedation, dry mouth, and dizziness, and could ruin the first day of your vacation.

Go to the doctor, and he can give you a presciption for a patch that goes behind the ear. It is fantastic for motion sickness. The only side affect is dry mouth.

I have not had the privelege of flying though I did experience motion sickness when I was young whenever we travel by bus. My mom would give the peel of an orange to smell everytime I feel dizzy. I guess it worked for me. But now, there are already medicines that you can take in to control motion sickness.
