I very frequently suffer from cold.Sneezing tires me out and upsets my whole day...ezpcially at workplace. It gets so embarassing and irritating. But at the same time I feel equally helpless, particularly when I have a presentation to make or when I have to attend a seminar in a terrible cold meeting room...Inspite of taking medicines,it definitely ends up upsetting a day or two bfore the medicines have their effect...How do you people fight common cold?

ugggg I know what you mean ..I used to get a cold every time the weather changed even in the summer time...right at this moment my whole family has strep throat it is horrible
Usually I fight a cold with peroxide I use to flush my nasal canal with ... its stings alot but works great. when i do it, it usually takes the cold away in a day...another thing you can do is eat real garlic that takes a cold away also ..it was the very first antibacterial ever used.

I had the problem when I was in school and college, but not now.
This is what you have to do. Develop a daily rhythm for all activities. woke up at the right time, have food at the right time, things like that.
One most important thing is to have a morning shower, whatever happened. Have a full body shower in the morning and if possible at night as well. In the begginning you may face some diffulty, but you can overcome that easily.
You know what I do when I get the slightest hint of a cold. I will go the shower and have a quick shower. that will reduce the temperature of the body a bit and induce more immunity.
Above all, if you are having the problem, dont work. Take rest and drink a lot of fluids. Dont even sit in front of the computer.
Cheers.

In spite of taking medications, have you concider to take an allergies test? I have a friend who thought she was having colds all the time. One day she was so awful that she had to go to the hospital. The doctors there told her that all of that were because of an allergie.

I think you should do yoga. Few breathing exercises everyday will keep your breathing mechanism and the machinery clean.
A healthy body keeps most of these common diseases away.

i always liked to get the cold in the winters because i didnt want to go to school. i faked my sickness and my mom believed it until like 3 weeks, she found out it was because i didnt want to go to school. i did stay home from school in those times she believed me and i tried to cough when necessary. now that it was closed to winter break, i really got sick and told my mom. she said to me "stop it you are going to have your break pretty soon" and i was full of headache. i guess i learned my lesson. now that im old i hate to get sick and get headaches.

This will shorten the duration AND if taken daily reduce or eliminate the number of "colds" you are getting - it worked for me.
Vitamin A 10,000 IU
Vitamin E 400 IU
Vitamin C 1,000 mg
I haven't had a cold, virus, what have you in months since I started taking this for my allergies (and if you have FREQUENT colds it is probably an allergy - I thought I had frequent colds until I complained to my doctor and he checked and it was really allergies but I didn't like the side effects from the antihistamines so I use vitamin therapy.)

Zicam! I swear by it! It has to be one of the best things out there, but you have to use it properly. You need to do exactly as the directions say. You must catch your symtoms early and use the product every 2hrs. (for the nasal gel) until the symptoms are gone. I started to get a cold last week, and the minute my throat got that familiar scratchiness, I started with the Zicam, and the symptoms went away after a day or so. Try it!

Good question. I hate that too. Getting up on a cold winter's morning with a cold is the worst esp. when it's before 9 for a 9'o clock start and you have a presntation to do. I had a cold a few weeks back and had a presentation to do, I felt awful and just wanted to get it out the way but the lecturer loved it, so all was not bad. :D Anyway, as for getting rid of the cold, I normally find airwaves chewing gum help you be able to breathe and stop your blocked nose for a while. Hot drinks also help warm you up inside, Soothers help your throat and the saying 'Feed a Cold' also helps even though you don't always feel like eating.

Having a cold also irritates me a lot especially during exams. You keep on sniffing and you can't concentrate. I usually take medicines and then drink a lot of fluids. Also you can avoid having one by taking vitamin C.
