I personally think ADD is a bunch of crap, another way to sell pills to kids and start a future drug addict off.
Kinda like depression, there must be something there, sadness...and if taking drugs that fix this sadness makes them happy then the drugs work, so would not being so self centered. Get out in the world, experience stuff, dont sit around and be "depressed".

I think that people with ADD should undergo a self-exploration process on how to focus their energies for the benefit of mankind. Undergoing depression is common to those ADD sufferers who haven't discovered their potentials.

You are the second post regarding depression that I have responded to. I will tell you what I told the other gal. Depression IS a disease, it can kill, and so is ADD and ADHD. I have depression, my brother has ADHD. We do NOT just sit around and be "depressed". I hate people who think that's all people do who have these diseases. Dont just assume, DO SOME RESEARCH before you post a topic that you dont fully understand. We have to take medication to treat it and we are NOT pill poppers,it's a treatment for a "disease". And I'm NOT self centered, Im betting I'm just as active as you are, only difference, I know about my disease, I DID research on it. Maybe you should go reae about it and better educate yourself, then you would understand.

well my take on this is that it is a true condition. my eldest sone has adhd, epilepsy, and is bi polar, and yes he has had brain scans, eeg's and been diagnosed by a neuroligst, so my take is that it is a true condition, however, there are many doctors out there that just hand out pills to children that do not have this condition, which i think is really wrong.

My only opinion on this is you really don't know what you are talking about ADD is real over diagnosed(sp) yes but real none the less. Maybe you should reasearch more before you make such a comment. If you had a child or another family member who has this you would understand more i am sure. But please don't label ADD kids as spoiled or anything else that puts them down or the parents down.

I sometimes think that kids are wrongly put on medication for ADD and other things. If something is slightly wron, shove a pill in them to make them better. Other times they really do need help and sometimes pills or diferent kinds of teaching them is the way to go.
As for the depression, it sounds to me like you have never been depressed. That's good for you, and it also means you'll never understand it. There is being depresed as in something bad happened or some little thing didn't go your way. That's the kind where you suggestions would work.
There is also the chemical depression where that just does not work. That is the kind where the person really has no choice in the matter. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. The person either needs medication or sometimes just a change in diet works. It all depends on how bad it is.

please do some research before you speak on something. being self centered has nothing to do with depression, and neither does sitting around. RESEARCH the conditions before you make offensive statements like that.

I agree that this user needs to do some research on these illnesses and should not be making statements like that. I work with people with disabilities and these two are common and I see how real these illnesses are and what they can do. I used to suffer from depression myself and found this to be very offensive myself. This is the second person who said the same thing about Depression and ADHD.

You clearly no nothing about depression. I have suffered from depression for years. I don't sit around the house being depressed. When it first happened I foudn it difficult to go out and do things. I couldn't understand why i was feeling down because everything was going well for me, and I didn't understand how to make it better because depression means that you feel bad with no reason for feeling bad. Have you ever tried fixiing something when you don't know the problem? It's not like feeling bad because you lost your job or fell out with a friend, where there is a clear solution (get another job, make up with your friend).
When I found out what was wrong me I was able to make things better. Depression never goes away, there will always be bad days and good days. But when I'm having a bad day I make myself go out and do things, I go to work and i do things that I would usually enjoy, even though I probably won't enjoy them while I am feeling depressed, but it stops the feelings of depression from getting worse.
Far from being selfish and self centred I am a full time charity worker who does volunteer work in her spare time. Far from being lazy I work 48 hours a week and then do volunteering on top of that.

Having ADD/ADHD has nothing to do with being spoiled. My son is not spoiled at all. He does well in school but his mind wanders sometimes. He was on medicine for awhile and then we took him off because he had no appetite. He has since learned to train his mind to focus a little better. Socially it is hard for him because he is very smart and not into sports. Spoiled is the last description I would give him. He also never has to get disciplined. He is always a good kind and loving kid

And yes to shiboleth, we all know alot of doctors hand out riddlin like its candy, so its easy to get and give to your kids. my kids aunt, on his moms side. when i was with kate we lived with her sister. she had 2 sons one was a baby still but the older one was a really hyper kid and just look for attention. i sat down and played with him once after i met him and became in his words uncle mel. if he would whine and cry for something, she would slap him, and he was only 3, hes a kid, sit him down and talk to him and not let him move til he gets why what he was doing was wrong, personally a kid whining for something is not wrong in my opinion.
