Should We all try to be 'Ethical Consumers?'

I read an article recently talking about 'The real price of cheap clothes.' It was quite interesting as it talked about many of the cheap clothes that we buy from super markets such as 'Asda, Tesco and Pri-mark' and sated that the producers of these clothes are not even being paid enough to buy food. These workers, according to the article, are being paid as little as £8 a month for an 80 hour week. The workers are being beaten and not paid if they do not do overtime and are not allowed to join Trade Unions. With this information, would you be swayed into buying fair trade clothes or researching a shop before purchasing from it? Should the shops be doing more to buy products from reputable companies? And finally, should we be paying that wee bit more money so that people in third world countries can actually afford to eat?

This is interesting and I read about it before, it was against all or most Chinese made products as you can never tell most of the time and with very cheap prices you wonder how it can be produced and shipped and sold to you with prices no one else can compete with.. It's hard for people to take action as most of the time big brand names are over-priced and you feel they are stealing your money just for the label and all the TV commercials, etc. and we all try to get by and need to save a few $$ here and there. I think there was supposed to be trade sanctions against countries that doesn't give good working conditions for their workers but maybe money is talking louder than ethics with politicians all of the time :(
