what o you do when a 17 year loses the meaning of getting a gift?

My 1year old neice inform the whole family that it was not the thoughht that counted. She got a gift from a secert santa that she did not like. And I told her it was the thought that counted and she told me it is not. That you either get what she wants or nothen at all. I am really thinking about getting her something really crazy for christmas or maybe nothen at all she really she really needs to understand what getting a gift is really about. I just don't think I can go out of my way to get her something she wants after she said that. What do you think?
