ATM Pin #

United Arab Emirates

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. Please pass this along to everyone possible

I just found out about this at work the other day as one of my coworkers emailed this to all of us. It is very good information to know. Hopefully none of us will ever get robbed but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

This is not true, it is an urban legend that is circulated all around the Internet via email. Like a previous comment said, what if a person's PIN is the same backward and forwards, like 25352? Check out snopes.com and do a search for 'reverse PIN' or something like that, you'll see it's bogus.

Yes I got to know about it a few days back when I was searching some tricks about `how to save our atm's card from robbers` I was actually even thinking to post the same discussion but unfortunately you have made one! I have never suffered from this robbery kind of stuff. Moreover, as I am a citizen of Pakistan it takes alot of time to implement such system because we are not so much succeed in this regard. I hope one day we will as we are working hard on this field :) I want to congratulate UK, US and other citizen's for this new system! Hope you all will never ever suffer from any robber. Thank you for such a lovely discussion. Happy earnings and have a good day!

I also have heard about this idea. its a very nice but i have a confusion.. if ATM pin # is palindrome in nature. I mean if the number is same as backward and forward then? as an example if no. is 1221 then how machine will get to know that you are being robbed and the information will be reached to police?
