I have received an email saying I have won $500.00 on the yahoo lottery. When you click the site it looks like yahoo and it ask you for which payment processesor you want to deposit the money in to. Like e-gold, paypal, etc. It just ask for your payment name. Is this for real or is it a phishing email? How can I find out if it is for real?

I don't know. I haven't heard about any Yahoo lottery and I am on there everyday. I would be careful. It might be a phishing email, trying to get your name. If you didn't enter a lottery there, I would say it probably isn't for real.

Yes I know but this only asked for my name to make payment. I didn't enter anything but was not sure how real this is.

Of course it's a fake phishing scheme. Yahoo has no lottery and, if they had one, you would have had to enter it in order to win. Do what one other person said and report it to Yahoo and let them deal with it. Any time you or anyone else receive an email like this, you should ask yourself whether you entered that particular lottery/sweepstakes or whatever.

It is fake. Go to http://www.yahoo.com and Go to the bottom look for the contact us page and copywrite and trademark infringement, and forward the email to that address. Not sure whether yahoo will take action or whether it really cares.. But that is what I do. - DNatureofDTrain

Yup its definitely a scam. These scams try to use yahoo and also microsoft's name. They figure their both well known companies so your more likely to trust them but Microsoft and Yahoo don't have any lotteries. They might have a sweepstakes now and then but first of all you'd have to enter it to win and it wouldn't be for millions of dollars.

I wouldn't think it is , unless you actual played the game. I get stuff like that all the time in my email and I just delete them. I don't think yahoo has a lottery.
