i know that he felt the way to change the world was to start by changing yourself, and i am living by that idea.
its very challenging since it requires me to break habits that society, friends or family have imposed on me.

yes, you are right that gandhi wanted people to effect a change from within. where people will be so willing to take so much sacrifices in favor of effecting a peaceful revolt which will lead to a peaceful change in our lives. for real freedom is achieved if we have freed ourselves of that bondage from within.

You could find a lot better information on the internet but from general knowledge and watching the Ghandi film I remember he was an Indian fellow who used peaceful protest to get his people rights when their country had been overtaken by us jolly Brits. He would lead and encourage his followers to basically let themselves get beaten to hell and never respond violently but to protest without force.
