egoist or self confident

If the people who doubt me are ones who truely know me, then I often attemt to prove myself. I mostly try to keep my ego in check.

i think ur expression kinda closely describes my dilemma...i'm a person who tends to be overly critical of myself... 'self-confident' would be the last word i'd use to describe myself...coz, though i'm not really lacking in confidence, i often need to prove myself, or rather my 'ego' that i'm capable of doing a task, before i set out to do it, and this often turns out to be more difficult than the task itself...
