School is a much more dangerous place than when I was younger. From a safety standpoint I would lean toward home schooling. However I feel that there are great rewards to the child for having the contact with other kids. What we chose to do was send our child to private school to hopefully have a safer environment.

This is a very personal decision.
It's great to have your kids home and safe, spending quality time together, but like the other poster said, the socialization can be important to their development too.
I think if people choose to home school, they should have their kids involved in play groups or other social activities also.
My kids seem to respond to and benefit more from teachers than my methods of teaching and I love that our public schools are so diverse, so I choose to send them to school.
