Can free energy (water,wind etc) can replace oil in the near future?

What do you think? How long will it take for the world not depend on oil totally ?

Wind/water power can be used to replace power station generated power in some places. Both are unreliable and power stations would be needed as backup. Neuclear power will cause the least adverse effects with regards to global warming. Liquid fuel will still be needed for transportation. Bio-fuels are the best option here with oils directly from plants being the most efficent.

Free energy could eventually replace most or even all of the petroleum in the future, but there have to be enough companies willing to make the investment for that to happen. It probably won't happen very fast until the changes in climate are so obvious that no one tries to deny them any more.

if cities where smart they would use all that free energy they waist at the cuty dump. there is so much gas that they just burn up for free that we could use.

Yes, I think free energy can replace oil, but only when it will not exist anymore, because rich people earn a lot of money with this energy and don't want replace it for the moment...
