K, we have established that we are never 100% safe on the streets, in our homes etc. I always thought that Court House's was one place nothing couls happen to you, common it is crawling with police and this one is right by my house, on the other side of it is the RCMP station, also get this the RCMP station is home to the IHIT team which is BC's major Homicide Investigation Unit lol It is kinda scary just a few blocks from my house, proving once more no one is safe! Stabbing in court house parking lot Paramedics attend to the victim of a knife attack outside Surrey Provincial Court on Wednesday. BOAZ JOSEPH / THE LEADER By Dan Ferguson Staff Reporter Dec 15 2006 A 52-year-old man was napping in a car outside the Surrey Provincial Courts when he was stabbed in the neck. The attack occurred Wednesday morning about 11 a.m. in the outdoor parking lot between the courthouse and city hall, one block down the street from Surrey RCMP headquarters. A police report said the man had accompanied a female friend to the courthouse. She parked the older-model Pontiac Sunbird with a disabled permit hanging from the rearview mirror in a handicapped parking spot and went into the courthouse. The car had been vandalized, with both rear passenger windows shattered. The man, who stayed behind to keep an eye on the car contents, nodded off, then woke up because someone had just slashed the driver’s side tire. Before he could get out of the car to intervene, the driver’s side door opened and a man attacked him with a knife, stabbing him in the throat. It was the ex-husband of the woman, police said. The attacker fled on foot, leaving the injured man behind. Police and ambulance crews were on the scene in moments and quickly determined the wound was not life-threatening. The wounded man was transferred to hospital for further treatment after questioning by police. The attacker was arrested about 30 minutes later. Brian Roger Croteau, 43, of Surrey, has been charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of uttering threats and two counts of mischief under $5,000. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in the courthouse near the stabbing scene shortly after Leader press time Thursday.
