why put yourself in a dangerous situation?

Ok this has always bugged me..
Why would you go climb a mountain that you know is dangerous to do and that you may not make it out alive the weather turns bad?
I mean you can climb the mountain when there is no SNOW.
then what really gets me is that we spend tax dollars searching for these people when they get lost or in trouble becuase of the snow or weather conditions... but yet we cant look for missing children in our own backyards??
All the TV stations cover these stories however missing children and elders never make the news........does not make since to me.(well certain ones make the news however the hispanic and black children that are missing very rarely make the front pages of newspapers or tv stations)
think about it. yes it is sad to see that a person lost their life on a mountain top in a snow cave however no one made them climb that mountain they did it on their own, so they put their self in danger.
Also who is paying for this search if they are found will the hikers be billed for the time and money that have been used to look for them? will the hiker found dead in the snow cave family be billed for searching for him?
I know this may sound mean to some of you reading however WE need a reality check and to open our eyes to alot of things.
Missing Children should come first........not grown adults who take the chance of climbing a snow covered mountain at their own will.
It just gets tiresome to see certain things on the news when there are more important matters that could use that airtime.

It is their hobby and they have done it before. I am sure that they figured they would be OK. It is no different than those of us that get in our cars and drive fast. We know we can cause an accident and police would then have to work that accident when they could be out doing other things.

True when we break the law by speeding or jaywalking(yes jaywalking) we have to pay a fine. So when you have to be rescued for getting stranded somewhere you should have to pay for that also, unless of course it was not due to anything that you have done.. for example your on a crusieship and it starts to sink...

I see that you are located, from your profile in CA, which is probably why your TV stations are giving it so much coverage. I am from NY and our local news stations give a quick recap and move on to other things. So, in my area this tragic event isn’t taking away from other important things, such as missing kids. But, as I mentioned before, I am all the way across the country.
As for why people take risks, I am not sure, but I do feel that it is their right to do so. I also feel that is their right to be rescued, no matter what the cost. Everyone keeps on talking about tax payers dollars being spent; well these individuals and their families also pay taxes too.
It is also hard to associate what is a risk and what is not. For example, do you like to go hiking or boating or something else like that? While most would consider that to be a simple recreational activity, it is considered a risk to others. If you got lost while on a hike or your boat capsized in the middle of a lake, wouldn’t you be hoping and praying that someone would come rescue you? I know I would be.

Yes very true I never said I did not want to be rescued..lol I said we should be billed for the rescue teams expenses..
Everyone has a right to do what they please and to do what makes them happy, however if it comes to a point where there has to be a rescue crew called out then the person being rescued should have to pay for being rescued...
I thin kthat is they would have ot pay for being rescued they would be a bit more careful in what they set out to do as a thrill......
Thanks for the post

i agree..it is quite stupid to climb a mountain. if they choose to do it, and they go missing, thats their stupidity for doing it. we dont want to hear about it. your right, missing children should come first. not a dimwitt who decided to go mountain climbing and got lost on their way to the top.

well sometimes the media sensationalize an event or a person or an important family and the story is huge... if it is just a simple and unknown kid that is missing, there is not enough people who will watch it thats why they are more concerned on that... imagine the commercials that will get in that program... its money talking...

well maybe they need to come back to reality and think about all those missing children out there.... It just amazes me how a life means nothing any more to many people. There is no suc hthing as a simple unknown kid as you put it, they all deserve to live and have a chance of life.thanks for posting!

Yes! I completely agree with you. A co-worker and were talking about it this morning. Yes, I feel sorry for the families that are going through this tough time, but, if they think about it, it was their choice. They are the ones that put their lives in danger. They were adults who could make sound decisions. No one put them out on that mountain and left them there.

Some people seem to thrive on excitement and danger. Certainly not me though. I would always rather be safe than sorry.
Allot of money and resources are spent on those people who do take risks and get into trouble because of it which could be better spent elsewhere.
There are so many needy people that resources should not have to be wasted on adults that should know better.

its all about thrill and adventure and if youa re not into such sports, you wont understand the excitement of doing such things.
if we had all started avoiding dangers, humanity wouldnt have accomplished what it has done today, no one would have climbed Mt Everest which is always snow clad, no one would have gone to the moon and most parts of the glode would have remained undiscovered.

Nowadays people are struggling about identity crisis. Many feel that their existence is not noticed by anyone. In order to attract the crowd's attention, many people do weird things just to be noticed.

Darwinism is alive and well. Survival of the fittest and/or smartest. Obviously these three weren't the smartest.
What makes me unhappy about it is that they put others at risk (the rescue parties) and caused so much grief to their friends and families. Plus all the wasted resources.

They put themselves into such situations because they see it as the one of the limited ways that can satisfy their adrenaline rush hunger. They feel the bliss of conquering the unconquerable and the recognition that goes with it.
As for those missing people, they should be given the same attention from those who got lost while mountainclimbing.

well i think we cant decide what other people is thinking regarding climbing in the top of the mountain and a lot of snow. Coz for us it is dangerous and since it is dangerous we dont go there but ofcourse since other people still want to challenge there lives and to be able to be known also since it will be in TV. Also others are brining the pride of the country like what happend last time. Philippines is one of the succesfful climber.

I think what you said is reasonable.
Maybe some of them don't consider the consequence when they plan to do some dangerous behaviour just for excitement.
Some of them are athletes who wanna challenge the limit of human being to climb the jokul. I think it is really a dangerous choice to be an athlete of this kind. I don't know if their families give them suport, but I think my parents and friends would not support me if I wanna to do that. On the other hand, those athletes deserve to be appreciated because they try to convince ability of human beings with the risk of losing their life.
