Last week I posted a riddle that I got off of a riddle website and I got a person that accused me of duplicating her post. i went through all her discussions and i found that she had in fact posted that exact riddle, BUT i didn't copy it off of her and never saw her post before then. I feel very hurt that she attacked me in the discussion like that because I honestly did not know that she had posted before I did. So now not only am I going to lose ratings and money I may be booted from Mylot. What are your veiws on this....there are so many discussions on her it is hard to go through all of them before posting a new one. Sorry this is so long, but I just want to know what ur veiws on the duplicate discussions.

After being in mylot for a week, I only get to know about the 'search' now. Thanks! As for the discussion topic, I think the we should try to accomodate each other as a big family of mylot. While I believe it's quite frustrating to see others repeating your discussion, it is difficult to avoid this situation because of the large scale involved. I'll check on the party's profile before I decide the action to take.

I rarely post myself exactly because of this problem. MylOt is simply too big to know if what you are going to post has been posted before. It's a sad problem. But don't worry I don't think myLots admin will kick you out because of that :-)

I try to think twice before ruining someone else's day! I don't know why so many don't think twice before 'speaking' :))

I would never jump to such a conclusion, unless I investigated the person's other posts and found they had been doing such a thing regularly. And I wouldn't even investigate it, likely anyway, unless it happened more than once, of was a discussion exactly worded as mine, and NOT a riddle or something, which for crying out loud, can so easily be read, and posted by someone else, Isn't that the nature of riddles and jokes? The get passed around. Such craziness! I would think mylot would investigate, otherwise anybody coule report anybody for anything, and get them booted off. That would crazy. [I also hope anyone who gives negative ratings because they disagreee with someone's opinion, or 'dislike' the poster, would get low rates from mylot.]

I hope mylot does something like that to those people, as I myself have experienced people giving me - ratings because they disagre with my opinion, I feel that the + and - should be used to rate the quality of the discussion and responses, not - if you disagree and + if you agree as we are all entitled to have our own opinion...
I also agree with you and would not accuse someone unless I could see that they copied my exact discussion word for word and it was something other than a riddle, joke or poem, ect, or a news story, before I post a discussion I try to see if there is already another like it, but sometimes they are very hidden and hard to find until after I have posted mine and someone elses posts that there was already the same discussion

I have encountered people doing the same. I have reported them to mylot by using the ! key. You need to put why you think the person is copying or their responses are inappropriate, etc. Once Mylot flushes out the bad apples, our community will be a better place.

I agree there are so many discussions it's hard to keep track and I don't see anything that you did wrong. Jeez, you'd think some of these people had copyrights on their posts. In your case all you did was publish the same riddle from another web site. Does that mean that everybody wsa discussion quoting from rosie or donald trump (there have been many) is copying because it all comes from the smae news report?

well complete duplication of posts with no change in commas is a very exceptional case. i had not gone with such situation.. it will be better that you e-mail the facts about such situation, as mylot is nice organization they will accept your feelings

Before I post anything, I type my title of the post as well as some keywords into the search box (top left) on MyLot. This will give you an indication if the topic has been discussed or not. I would suggest that everyone does this from now on to prevent any negative ratings and loss of income.

Nice Hatchet Man!
Well I don't beleave you will get booted. ( I Hope Not )
Maybe they will delete your discussion.
But I feel you both may be in the same boat, because you coppied something from somewhere and didn't give credit to where you got the riddle. If she has been doing it for awhile then she may get booted. We all make mistakes.
Best of Luck

I have seen many people have the same discussions as other people. It is sad that others think you are copying them. I seen on another posting that someone thought that they stole the questions about asking about their cats!!! how silly is that. Almost as silly as claiming a riddle. Just have fun and try to ignore the attacks that other people do to you.

You are right sometimes we never knew that some people are posting the same or similar to the topic we have in mind. I also experienced that one time I responded on the discussion and when I press posted I discover that 1 of the member there also answer the same answer as I have and it is co insidence that she is one of my friend.

Mylot would do exactly what you did and if it finds that you have consistently been fiddling with the system then they might boot you, not otherwise. so, take heart, be more cautious, search before you launch your own discussion and like what you did now, the moment you are accused of something like this - just come out clean.
cheers !!

Well.. in case this was unintentional then there could be ways by which this could be prevented
- MyLot could develop a system which tracks discussion using the tags used to label them and the title of the discussion .If the system should find this discussion, having semantic relation with all previous ones which had similar tags, then the it could notify the person/disallow him to post it/allow him to post it with some difference .I think this , would also allow the person posting the current one to modify/improvise his topic and ; thereby reducing duplicity.

For safety measures, you better check the similar discussions to avoid duplicate discussions.
